I caved. I just couldn't help myself. Soooooo, look what I got today from a local dealer....a 12-3 cabinet!!! Floor model. 10% off. Yay! I've had the Magellan 800 since it was introduced.

Took hubby along to help carry gear since I brought in my own bass and amp and he was as excited as I was! LOL!

Thanks. I took my Baer cab to compare and my Sadowsky Metro. The Baer sounds good too but does not have the lower end that the 12-3 has. I think I might keep all my Baer stuff since there is no reason to sell it. I just need to make room for everything.

I have been getting some smallish gigs for the past month and used my BA12-3 SLT combined with my metro JJ 5. There were a couple of gospel gigs as well where they really wanted me down in the lower frequencies and loud. Keep getting blown away time and time again. Thanks to @Loring for also getting me to play s bit with the eq settings for added fun.

Question about the phones output on the MG-800 amp: If the amp is connected to a speaker load and the phones are connected, should the amp output to the speaker be muted?

I plugged in some headphones for a little silent practice tonight and the speaker was NOT muted with headphones plugged in (and I WAS getting output from the phones jack). The amp did work silently when I disconnected the speaker.

Is this normal for this amp? I checked the manual and there was no info about this phenomenon, just a note that the amp could be safely used with no speaker load.

This was brought up earlier and explained with some techno speak, but yes this is normal for the Genzler heads.

This feature you're describing is only found in small low power practice combos. In order to have the headphone operation disconnect the speaker outputs you would be running the total power of the amplifier through the headphone jack and that is note a good idea above 25 watts or so. That would not be a safe design.
I can't think of any 50W amp or more that has that feature of disconnecting the speaker outs when inserting phones into the headphone jack.

I have seen some designs that introduce a special on/off switch on the rear panel for the speaker out but that is also a source of concern for some if it is inadvertently turned off. That would take a special heavy-duty switch. I think we did that years ago on a GB design for a combo and we constantly had people on the showroom floor turning it off and then the next person testing it thinks they have a dead amp. That was frustrating!!

Actually, on the MG-800 you really don't need to remove the speakon cable from the speaker output, you can just unlock and twist it to disconnect the signal to the speaker ---- leaving it plugged in loose in the jack.

And I would not recommend placing any type of speaker On/Off switch in line to a cabinet for this function either. It would need to be a specific type and you would not want to introduce a short or grounding issue in the speaker output chain to the cabinet. That could cause a potential fault at the Class D amp.

Hi! I thought I should share my experience with my rig that I bought this summer.
Right now I'm at the end of a 30-gig concert hall tour around Sweden now playing hits from musicals. Lots of totally different styles, and the amp handles it all perfectly!
From bowing on the upright to modern sounds on my Sadowsky NYC PJ5 and vintage sounds on my ‘63 Precision, I've never had better sound onstage. The sound guy is amazed by the amp and cab as well!
Have ordered a second 12-3 as well but on this tour in concert halls with sometimes a bit messy acoustics this only one has been perfect!
Btw, I've found a great solution for doubling upright and electric that I'm really happy about!
I use the regular input for the electrics to use the preamp and eq, but the upright goes through an external preamp (Vintage Revolution) and then into aux in on the backside. That way I can use the preamp to get a great sound on my electrics and I don´t have to compromise with the upright that goes straight to the power amp.
I'm really happy and impressed by the amp and especially the speaker!
