I saw this post New mesa subway amps and cabs! in a mesa subway thread and wondered if the Magellan 800 works the same way. Care to enlighten me @Jeff Genzler ?
My current rig consists of a Magellan 800 -> Mesa Subway 15, so I'm using the 8Ω setting. This cab can handle 400 watts so no issues there especially at home volume levels. I'm just curious.

I gigged Friday night with my Genzler rig and none of the guys in the band had heard of this stuff except another bass player who happen to be there who had only heard of Genzbenz. I used the DI as there was front of house. After the first set I had a small crowd of 5 people around my rig wanting to know what the deal was with this array stuff. Sound guy said he had such an easy time getting a great sound. Always makes me wonder what kind of crap the guy you’re subbing for is using when you get reactions like that.
That’s funny! But I do a lot of subbing and get the same reaction to my tone and to my playing. I mean...I’m not the worlds greatest player. And all I’m doing is “playing the gig”. As in “playing the correct parts at the correct time”. It ain’t rocket science.
I think to myself “Man....If they think I sound and play good, their regular bassist must really suck!”
One of the levels of mastery is not knowing how good you are...

It’s a level of reality.
It’s amazing how many gigs one can get if one shows up on time and prepared. And isn’t a total a@@wipe.
Word. I know I have gotten gigs for this very reason. Say yes, no problem, whatever works. You’ll get called again.
In the 90’s I was in a group that traveled quite a bit. One of the guitarists I worked with was quite the extraordinary player. His pager (Yes: Pager.) was often going off due to getting calls for work. Lotsa studio calls.
I asked him the secret to his success. He said “I’m always fun on a gig/date. I come in and start joking and making everybody laugh. I get calls because the guys calling me know when I’m on a date, it’s going to be fun!”
This was a top shelf player. He could freakin’ play. Funk. Rock. Reggae. Country. His tone was sublime. And he didn’t say “I get calls because I’m a great player”. He said “I get calls because I’m fun to work with.”
It was quite a learning moment for me.

Nope. It was sitting there waiting for the lame FOH guy to finish running lines so I can tape my cord down from my pedalboard. It was a so frustrating how bad this guy was. At least we sound checked a bit before we went on. It was a long day. On the other hand my rig sounded amazing. I couldn’t get any video due to the above. But, got another Theater show on Saturday so I hope to get that done. Heres a stage shot!
Sunday night jazz gig. Could have easily used the BA10-2 for this as I barely have the volume up on the 350. I think the Tall 12 may be my outdoor cab and the 10 my indoor.
The Genzler sounded amazing again. Although, like I mentioned, I had plenty of headroom. I could have probably used my BA10-2 with great results as well. We were a little cramped for space, otherwise I may have brought both and don a side by side and swapped at set break.
