With one cab and the 800 one can do light type sound and still maintain clarity.

Just fired up the BA12-3 with my MBF800... WOW!!!! Even at low volume the cab sounds big. I gave it a pretty good crank and shoot, really nice mids coming through and the highs were smooth.
Bottom was very rich and solid. This was with a passive jazz bass. Can't wait to open it up with my Nordy. (Gonna have to tape up the windows when #2 comes along) :D
Thanks Jeff for a very innovative speaker arrangement. The Array is a winner.

We've been considering including a coupon to Glass Doctors with each cab but your idea about taping the windows is a good plan.;)

Okay, so the Magellan 800 arrived this afternoon, and I finally had a chance to plug it in to one of my Bass Arrays (the other is at the jam space).

Um.. Holy crap. This head, through the Bass Array is life-changingly good. It is simultaneously beefy and articulate in the most incredible way. The contour circuit court is insanely useful, and the drive channel sounds fantastic. It may actually replace my go-to distortion pedal for my fundamental drive sound.

My wife (who paid the $200 duty charge as I was still at work - thanks baby!) was working with her headphones in, and even she had to take them out and exclaim about how good it sounded.

Can't wait to get this into the jam space with both Arrays hooked up!

I haven't played the Magellan 800 yet but play a single BA12-3 with my Shuttle 9.0 in a variety of situations. The cab just sits so well... everywhere I have tried it. The church band I play in is pretty low volume and it is amazing there... and then with a pop band in a club of 150-200 and it is perfect there too. It isn't just about power and/or volume. It just works really, really well - it sits nicely in the mix, it carries well, dispersion is great, I can hear myself and the nuances of my playing. From everything I have read, the new head is a perfect match for the cab and I have every reason to believe that...

Then of course there is the other question... just how much outlay can one justify for his or her situation... I'd love a second cab and maybe the new head but can't justify either right now. Even the one cab stretched my budget... For me, it was worth it and I'm really glad I made the purchase. I was very satisfied with my head but my previous cab (an Acme B2) was missing something important for me. Replacing the cab was much more important for my end goal than a new head. Obviously, you have to wrestle with those issues in your situation. At the bottom line, it is incredible gear that is not only an interesting idea, it works well and sounds amazing in the real world.

In my situation, my church bought an amp for to use there, and church is my only gig. If I visit another church, or when I play at home, I use my Peavey Max 115 300w amp. The Genzler is super nice, but $1,600 for essentially a practice amp is crazy in my opinion.

Understood. Dr. Cheese

I guess some of us can and do justify that kind of outlay for essentially a practice rig while others of us can't justify it even for regular gigging situations. It really is individual. Eventually some of the gear will begin to show up used which may or may not change the equation for you (and me). Until then, we celebrate new designs that will push the possibilities forward and maybe get a little jealous at some of the rigs other folk have ;).
