Plus I just bought an electric guitar for the first time in years. I’m hoping to get a gig as a side player with some singer-songwriters. I can play bass, acoustic guitar, or electric guitar... but I have to clear some things out. I’m putting some pedals up, my Ibanez Mezzo medium scale, one head, we’ll see what else.

We KNOW whatever you don't keep will go to good use here (@Gab124 ). Given that you are looking to to some side things and such the 350 combo is so easy to carry and so versatile. The 350 has more than enough horsepower for almost anything.

And as you likely already know, if you needed bigger sound/volume (assuming not using FOH) adding more cabinet(s) is the way to go rather than a more powerful amp with the same cab setup.

like you i had and used both a 350 and 800 for a few years (also use the same cabs as you).
i sold the 350 last spring.
i don't currently use all the 800 has to offer but do like having and not needing than vice versa.
i use the amber channel primarily so we do differ there.
having watched the classifieds, both amps seem slow movers of late and when sold are at bargain prices.
there is no wrong decision imo. they are both great sounding amps

I have a 350/Tall 12 combo. I also have a BA10-2 that is for sale. The MG350/Tall 12 combo is all I'll need for the non PA gigs I do. Used it outside for a jazz gig. Sounded great with the gain at about noon and the master at maybe 9 o'clock. Plenty of headroom left for me. But I don't have to compete with a loud band with no bass in the FOH or whatever. While I am envious of the big rigs posted here, I like that I can grab mine in one hand and only need an A6 to haul my gear. Most of my gigs are DI/IEM/Silent Stage so...

OK hive mind... I’m going to sell one of my heads and can’t decide which one: the 350 or the 800? I really only need one... (one has lived at the church I pastor and I’m retiring the end of this month).

Obviously the 800 has 2 channels, more headroom, and a bit more I/O... but it is also more than I see myself needing. Ever. I rarely use the second channel and I do have a pedalboard that gives me a boost and the equivalent of two more channels. Likewise I have not used the effects loop. It would sell for significantly more than its little brother. But I do have it... and I could find myself needing the extra something or other at some point.

The 350 sounds great, is such an easy schlep, and seems to have everything I need for the foreseeable future. I
Don’t see it falling short of my needs in any way.

I have used the 350 and 800 interchangeably with the BA10-2, the BA12-3, and both cabinets together. The venues were typically 75-100 people, one band a blues trio, one band a 4-piece classic rock band, and never PA support. I was never short of power with the 350. I have not used the drive channel or the effects loop on the 800, so I suppose the 350 would be all I need.

Having said that, I've thought about setting up the 800 drive channel with a different sound, so I could use each channel on the 800 for different songs. Then again, with both the 350 and the 800, they sound so good flat that I rarely tinker with the EQ or curves.

So @revroy I'm probably no help, but I suppose I'd keep the 350 if I had to choose.

Given the choice, I would keep the 800. It may have more than you need, but I've learned to be prepared, and you'll be very prepared for every situation with the 800. Of course, I haven't tried the 350, but use my 800 for everything from small dive bars to larger clubs.

For what it's worth, when I was considering my Genzler purchase earlier this year, I was torn between saving a few bucks and going with the 350 (only to be perpetually second guessing my decision over the lack of the second channel) or ponying up the difference to rest assured I had the best I could get. I went with the 800 and have never looked back. My advise, if you really want to get rid of one, get rid of the 350. There may come a time when you want a little dirt in your mix and the second channel will be missed if you sell the 800.

If it is acceptable to keep both cabs, why don't you just stack the amplifiers on top, as they don't take up any meaningful additional volume of storage space?

If this reasoning is faulty in the eyes of her awesomeness, I'd advise to keep the 800. It does have the extra dirt channel, which could come in handy.

I enjoy the 350 combo in combination with one or two 12s (usually just a single 12-3 slt) because the combo goes into a single bag with the head attached. So it's easier to carry, is a faster setup, and 350watts goes a long way as others have noted. But I must admit that I do like the dirty channel on the 800. I suppose if portability is a factor and you have a pedal on the floor to give you some dirt then maybe that might sway you towards the 350 only.

It's hard to argue with extra power though, you'll never be wanting.

Well there's a small world story. I grew up on the Maryland side of DC, and in the mid 60's I was also always looking for a ride to go to Chuck's original location in downtown DC. I bought my first real bass amp there...an Ampeg B15.

Later, in the 70s, I played in bands around the DC area. Our booking agent was Barry Rick Associates, whose office was in Chuck's Wheaton location. It was like a home away from home.

I'm on the west coast now, and haven't been to Chuck's in a long time, but glad to hear they're still going strong and especially glad to hear that they carry Genzler Amplification!

I'm looking forward to Jeff's live streaming event on September 23.

It was Edison H.S. in northern VA for me but I graduated 6 years earlier than you. I remember our high school bands playing freebee gigs in Old Town Alexandria, they always seemed to be a "teen night" in the basement of a church somewhere. One time we hit the big time and played at what I think was a roller rink or something like that in Old Town. Hope I'm still remembering that correctly. Same place I saw Mott the Hoople before I knew who they were. Such a young punk I was.
