I feel like channel one or clean channel is like a modern clean really thumping sound. Really 3D sounding and full of life. Great headroom and like i said very modern, an the contour button seems to add tightness.


Channel 2 and second contour seems more modern sounding not as thumpy but still great

Thank you for using our Magellan 800. I agree with @Joeykun and his comments.
I think you're also right on with your assessment of the CLEAN channel. Your also correct about the DRIVE channel in that there will be less "thump", but I would call in more of a vintage tone/vibe. As mentioned as you roll up the GAIN control you will also narrow the frequency response of this channel ----- as you turn the control you'll attenuate the lows slightly and the top end as well. This works well for several tonal settings. Keeping the Gain setting cleaner with a little harmonic content and "furr" you'll get more of that tubby characteristic. As you drive the GAIN higher and get into more of an overdrive range you tone will be smooth without flubby low end or buzzy top end. Lots of versatility in the GAIN channel and the use of either A or B Contour.

Yeah, I love the Drive channel to produce just a little edge. It sounds very much alive but still 'in control'... The A/B contour control then allows me to have that edge added to both a more modern as well as a more vintage toneshape. You gotta love it...

Thanks for this. I'd been wondering why I'd been unsatisfied with the gain channel. I guess I just need to mess with the contour more than I do. I don't mess with it much during gigs, but I suppose I can use tape to mark the two different settings for my clean and OD settings.

Along those same lines, I'm used to using EQ to get "my" tone, and then refining it with the contour, but, lately, I've been starting with the EQ flat, getting close with the contour, and then using EQ to fine tune.

I guess I've just been so happy to have such an effective EQ section that can either be as transparent or as colorful as I want, that I've stayed away from the contour.

@unbridled ---- thanks for using the MG-800. I would recommend using the Contour function first and keep your EQ flat. Get your tone "settled" with the amp and your instrument with either Contour A or B and then season to final taste with the EQ. So many various players I talk with (men and women) barely touch the EQ unless to clean up an issue in a specific room, or stage. Hope this helps.
