Also, does anyone use the for loop of the megellan head? If so what pedals you got through it? I’m just diving into the features of the amp seeing if there is anything I should be doing diff. Fx loops as a guitar player was always hit or miss, seems the same in bass world.

Funny I have the keeley and that’s the only pedal I use (actually just leave it on always so don’t use it as a pedal) but I’m thinking of making the move to the L1.

The LA-1A is the ONLY piece of gear that I call a game changer. When I first used it, our singer (she admits she knows nothing about gear) said what did you do to your bass? It sounds great. The sound guy (who knows gear but never reacts to any changes I make) was playing “air bass” back at the board and said I’ve never sounded better.
It’s big. It’s expensive. It’s 12 volt. I bought a CIOKS DC-7 to power it. I doubt I will ever play without it.

Do you like the mesa head better and may I ask what is it about it that you like better vs the megellan head? I will say if I had to part with one or the other it would be the head wwwwwaaayyyyy before these cabs! I thjnk these cabs are best in the game, now I don’t know enough to know how much matching the genzler head to cab matters but I know these cabs are amazing! But so is the head with that contour button! But it’s funny you have the head that I almost took over the genzler.

The Magellan 800 was a great head, but at the time I also had a Quilter BB800 and a Shaw B150, both of which matched up beautifully with my Barefaced 10s. The Mesa just has a bit more Harmonic content and offers more tone sculpting. I am in no way disparaging the Magellan, it’s a fantastic head! The Mesa just happens to be my preference.

Is that a keeley comp? I have the xotic comp which is great! But I think I want one with more dials and able to mess with the tone more. Also just a better sounding compression pedal. I love this xotic so much I prob wont even get rid of it, I’ll keep it for guitar rig. But im realizing how much a great compressor helps on bass.

It is a Keeley Comp for bass called the bassist. It does help to push/punch and even out the mix, but it’s also very transparent and let’s the natural tone shine.

The Keeley Bassist is nice. However, I moved to the Darkglass Hyper Luminal and never looked back. More compression options and totally customizable and transparent. I don’t want a compressor that colors my tone.

I think the bassist is one of the most transparent comps. I have not tried the DarkGlass though.

I totally agree. I was responding to PhishPhan22 who said he wanted more tone options on a comp. A compressor should not be an effect.

It’s a bit pricey but I’m happy with my CAL76-TX. Talk about transparent.

I misspoke or used the wrong terms. I fully know how to use a compressor, I should’ve said I want one with more dialing in options and more options I suppose. I have the xotic and it’s awesome but I hate having the dip switches on the inside of the pedal. Plus I feel there is better compressors out there. While I love my xotic I love the way compressor sounds with bass, so I was thinking maybe a better compressor, even better sound/tone

Got it!! Everyone mentioned great compressors here with different price ranges. Cali76, LA-1A, Keeley Bassist, Darkglass Hyper Luminal. All of these are great comps that are very transparent and will give you all the evenness and punch you’ll want! Try as many as you can out at a store so you can make the best decision.

Thanks for advice on compressors y’all! I’ll like into the ones as mentioned. I know the xotic compressor I have isn’t the worst comp in the world, in fact other then the feedback, and then the dip switches built inside it, id prob keep it, but then again I would like something higher quality. More punch, more better for slap, gets that real great ghost note tone... ya know something to that nature and I would suspect the most transparent would be best cause obviously, we all don’t want to color the Genzler tone! Lol.


So to my other question is anyone using the Fx loop on the Genz? If so what pedals and if you care to explain why that’s much appreciated.

I’m assuming if ultimate goal is 15 and 2-10 that the 15 should be slt and 2-10 straight? That’s basically what I do with my 12-3 combo (slt on bottom).
I guess the question is one wouldn’t do a 15 slt with a 2-10 slt on top right?
