Nice Genzler stack, Edwin! I'm glad you are gigging again and it's great to see you here on Talkbass after all those years on The Bottom Line email list. I was on there probably from 1998 on, didn't post as much as you did but always enjoyed your contributions.

Well, I never stopped gigging! By the late 2000s, I was doing about 150 shows a year on the road and decided that, as I was about to hit 50, I needed to use my brain or lose it. So, I went to law school, then had a kid (after we'd been together for 21 years, which was a whole other adventure involving a miraculous recovery from a brain injury he incurred during the birth.) and still make about a third of my income from music. It's far too late to quit!

Edwin, you always have had some really nice gear! Do you still have the Alembic basses? You were my inspiration to buy my Alembic F1-X rack preamp back in 1993. (Hence my revised estimate of what year I subscribed to The Bottom Line.)

It's inspiring to see you investing in, and playing, Genzler gear. It's quite the endorsement of Genzler. I know I'm really enjoying mine.

I sold the F1X when I got a Sarno SMS CTP and didn't need more than one single channel Fender style preamp. I also have the F-2B and a Groove Tubes Studio Bass Preamp, which gets a lot of use. My Alembics are gone, due to law school and kid expenses and the fact that I like my Alembic'ed Starfire better. Still, I'm working on manifesting another one, if a Series II medium scale balanced K falls into my lap!

@edwinhurwitz …you might take a look at the Genzler re/Q pedal to add to the arsenal. It has the LPF/HPF controls as well as 5 bands of EQ that fit in nicely between the bass knob and the treble knob of the amp. That combined with the sweepable mid knob on the amp gives you plenty of tonal options. I usually use my re/Q to help shape my tone for the different rooms I’m in. I also always use a Grammapad just to make sure everything is consistent.

I remember seeing you play at the Hoxeyville Festival in Michigan quite a few years ago, and I knew it was you simply from having followed your posts on The Bottom Line and seeing your gear onstage.

I wanted to head backstage and just say hello and introduce myself, but I had to leave before the set was done to play my own set on a different stage.

That was with Great American Taxi, with Vince Herman from Leftover Salmon. It was a fun band and we played a wide variety of music. We called it Americana without borders, so everything from old time swing to bluegrass to reggae and hiphop. Our album, Reckless Habits, was up there on the Americana charts for a little while.

Man, Edwin, you had such a music career! I'm sure your legal career has been much more lucrative, but a lot of us who knew you on TBL envied what all you got into back in the 80's and 90's.

I still make about a third of my income from music. Immigration law isn't as lucrative as white shoe law firm law.

@Jeff Genzler and @agedhorse I just wanted to pass along that a close friend was asking about my opinion on amps for a large room rehearsal space. He was looking at Mesa Boogie, Ampeg, Phil Jones, MarkBass, Genzler, Darkglass… I have a Trickfish 1k, a Bergantino B|amp, etc but the ones I use invariably are the two MGs and the Streamliner 600. I had no doubt advising him that both of you stand behind your work (Genz Benz or Genzler) and in this age stellar service counts for a lot. Within minutes, he ordered a new MG800. Really appreciate both of you, whether service or advice.

Depends; were you hoping to blow your pants off? If so 2xNC-212 will do the trick quite nicely. If you were just hoping to be heard by the entire neighborhood, a 212/115 would have worked just fine.
