…HPF! …

I played at an open-mic jam (ended up playing 3 hrs ha) last week with a provided bass amp, and with the first 3 notes I played, I was wishing I had brought my variable HPF pedal. It would have made such a difference. EVERY stage is different, and with an adjustable HPF built into an amp, one doesn’t have to drag along a pedal and power supply.

I received the Magellan 800+ proto back in October. It was exciting to see the upgrades. But, the tone steals the show!

Nate did a great job going over everything and agree with all his points. For me, that Drive switch is an always on feature. The preamp level, added sweepable Mids and both contours can really change the way the drive reacts. Add the footswitch and you can achieve so much more. Of course, that Genzler punch is still there that we all know and love!

If you own a Magellan 800, you will absolutely LOVE the 800+!!! You may say you don’t need it. But, believe me…YOU DO! You’re Welcome!

The foot switch capability on the + looks great. Plus having the contour controls be separate. My A contour positioning is different my B. Oh well. Not in the cards right now.
Working on getting that second 10-2 array cab.

I felt the same way when I saw the release but then I remembered how much I love mg800 as it is and said screw it. If I get the opportunity to upgrade at some point then great but for now I have an amp I'm super happy with and after trying so many amp's I wasn't super happy with, I'm just going to be content with that for now.

My MG800 arrives next week. I'm thrilled with the Kinetix but one near term performance requirement is for a totally clean tone ... like the Shuttle 3.0 I've had and loved for years but with more umph. Since I won't be using my pedalboard with the MG800 (and its AC-powered Fdeck HPF Series-3 Mini), I'll need to acquire a battery-powered HPF. That's the major deficiency. Other than that I'm curious how much the new preamp really differs from the old one in terms of presentation of notes. I suspect the differences are minor but no doubt this thread is bound to rack and tease my inner GAS-Manager and ultimately, some day, will force me to drag out the check book and (dang it!) acquire another amp.

The built-in HPF, second para mid control, and footswitchable contour (with separate knobs for each!) are IMO THE missing features from the 800.

If only Genzler had a 'trade-up' program! I've had my 800 for nearly 4 months.

For those of you with an MG800, you could always add a RE/Q pedal to get the HPF/LPF and additional EQ flexibility. I have one, and they're very useful, but the 800+ is still at the top of my acquisition list (well, along with a couple of ULV cabs)!

The RE/Q is a really nice pedal. So is the Preamp/DI.

Exciting news on the 800+! Different topic, though.

I was on the GA website just now and I noticed that, on the ULV 2x10 and 2x12 cabs, the top two ports are standard round ones, and the bottom two are triangular.

The drivers would not appear to be in separate compartments, as the round ports are right where the separator panel would be. I'd think it's to keep the triangular ports at a reasonable size, given the dimensions of the cab. Also, the aesthetics of two more triangular ports in the top corners would be odd.

I did have the RE/Q pedal and the frequency points on the EQ slotted in nicely with what is already on the MG800. Plus the HPF/LPF. With my BA410 I've never had to push the volume like crazy so I don't really worry about 'rumble' from sub frequencies killing the drivers or muddying the sound. And since I have such good success with a 'flat' EQ mixed with a little contour I don't need all the extra stuff. I know YMMV....but for me the all my Genzler stuff is so good out of the box I don't really need anything else. Except maybe a KInetix!

I just got one this past December! It replaced an ancient iAMP 350. I’m between projects, so haven’t played it much until just this past weekend when I had a lot of time on my hands. I love it. I really don’t have GAS for the update, but I’m sure it’s great. I do have a little gas for the Genzler lightweight cabs, but I’ve no business updating in that department.

@Hamrlik --- Sorry to have missed your previous post. I think the choice of cabinet is pretty much personal taste and if you want a single cab solution or seperates. Yes, the BA2-212-3 would be an ideal cab for what you descibe for your needs. Nate Navarro who does a lot of our cab testing and demo videos, loves this cab. Does it all for him. Our BA2-410-3 would also get that done if you'd like more punch in your cabinet. They also have great LF extension.
For portability I would lean towards 2 of the BA2-112-3 cabs but the BA2-212-3 cab will deliver more omph and great mid clarity as well.

If money was no object I'd definitely go with 2 separate cabs but...yeah. How would you describe the low end presence between the 212 and 410? Also when you say more punch with the 410, is that a feel thing because of different drivers, or is there some more baked in/mid-forward frequencies happening in the 410? There's a great music shop about an hour from me that I'm going to call to see what Bass Array cabs they have in stock. Hopefully I'll get a chance to test drive several options.
