Lol my home owners insurance and most for that matter doesn't cover little incidents like this. I believe my deductible is $2000 on my house so anything under that I'll have to cover myself. The glass repair is $175 not to bad but I can't help but think that's money I could have put towards another BA12-3.... Think I may be getting a bit obsessed with power! I found myself lecturing my 6 year old daughter last night to never play with this much power because you could get addicted and it could possibly hurt you....I was speaking as if I were talking to her about drugs . She wanted to know how I broke the glass. Even though I know this is way more than enough I still find myself wanting a couple more just to see what they will do! Doggone Genzler Crack! Help me, I hooked-LOL

On a serious note though, You do have good ear protection? IMO custom fitted ear plugs are the way to go. Get it done right. Again IMO, it's the best gear investment you'll ever make.

I was fascinated by glass breakage with a bass amp and spent some time searching.
According to the net, the only way to break glass by audio at reasonable SPL levels (below 150dB) is to hit the resonant frequency of the glass which is reported to be between 1K - 10Khz depending on the size, shape, thickness, etc.

The wine glass videos are reported to be at about 140 dB SPL.
The odd thing is that the articles I read claim that a flat piece of glass cannot be broken with sound waves at this relative SPL.
Admittedly this is the Interweb so this could be incorrect information.

Jeff, theoretically how loud would 6 12-3’s and 2 Magellan’s be under ideal conditions using a bass guitar?

I'm with you 100% I've even smacked my ownself but the thoughts started coming faster after I smacked myself. So why not save myself the pain of the smacks and just buy them lol. Im just joking guys I'm done buying (I think I am but don't hold me to that) but the thought is still in my head of how 9 will sound. PURE UNADULTERATED BASS HEAVEN ON EARTH TIMES THREE! Maybe at some BGT someone will have three and I can bring my 6 and that would cure my curiosity. Or will it inflame it to buy three more after I hear them? No seriously I think I'm done...with "I think," being the key words in that sentence. drool

I personally don't think it was the frequency that did it as to rather all the vibration from the bass. I literally heard the pictures on the walls and dishes rattling around in the dish washer before it happened? I also heard the panes of glass in all the windows vibrating quite violently. I believe it was more the bass rattling the actual window frames which caused it to break not a sound wave hitting it then it breaking. The reason I believe this is because the first sheet of glass didn't break it was the second pane behind the first pane which faces the outside. If it were the sound wave then I would assume the first pane it hit on the inside of the house would have broken first. I'm no expert on this just my thoughts. I do know that tempered glass can be broken easily if you just bump the corner of it. You can put quite a bit of force on the flat part and even wack it with a hammer quite hard and it will hold but hit the corner and it's over.

Jim C--- there are a lot of variables determining that but my first response would be "too frickin' loud"! In numbers it would easily be over 135dB but considering that is a bass frequency of some sort, it is probably pretty easy to soil your britches with that kind of brute force.
FYI--a jet engine is 140dB at 100 feet.

Since this thread has now gone fully ballistic, I should share something I relayed to one of my cousins this past weekend.
She asked me what is it about bass quitar that attracted me to it.
I told her it was two things initially (and neither was the fact that one would be my chances of getting laid would be higher as a bass player)

That is an interesting question when we're talking about gear. There is the emotional bit of having a cool piece of gear but for me there is the additional piece, well designed and built gear hopefully makes it easier for me to express myself musically. In the case of the BA12-3, that vocal midrange really allows my fretless to sing. The only thing that might get in the way is my lack of technique, not my cab, not my head, and not my bass.

I want to be clear, that in no way do I ever want to be in the position where I make excuses on how I sound because of my gear. If I ever do that, someone has all the permission in the world to shoot me.
