I'm very glad to have recently worked with Genzler Amplification on this review of their new 2x12! If you were/are a Genz Benz fan like I am, definitely check out the new Genzler cabs.
I own a Genz Benz NX2-212T and love it. Jeff sent me one of Genzler's new Magellan series cabs, the MG-212T to check out and review, so it was great to be able to compare them. I'll say this - if you're a fan of the old stuff, you're almost certainly going to dig the new stuff. Check out the video for all the specs that I had access to.
While the Magellan has a slightly smaller footprint, mostly due to the lack of the large, dual side ports found on the GB cab, they weigh just about the same and sound very similar. I found the Genzler to sound essentially the way it looks, compared to the NX2; slightly more traditional and classic, but packing a hell of a wallop. To me it seemed slightly less upper-mid scooped than the NX2, with perhaps slightly less very high-end with the tweeter control at noon, but with that control set to about 2 o'clock they sounded very similar to each other. Jeff describes the Magellan 212 as less aggressive in the mids than the NX2. Both cabs use Faital drivers, but I believe Jeff said they weren't exactly the same.
Have you tried a new Genzler cab, either the Magellan series or the cool array-sporting BASS ARRAY12-3? What were your impressions?
