Me too. I've been entertaining the idea of moving to the 21st century and getting a smartphone, but then I think of all the crap that goes with it.

Re commercials: I want to fry that insurance emu. And the guy in those ads.

Once there was a kinder, gentler time when people only wished to see the Snuggles Bear come to a very bad end.

A nice feature of the latest phones is the camera. One can record in 8K video and then let you pick individual images to keep. The results are stunning.

As for commercials, I never watch TV live, it's recorded which allows me to zoom over them.

Like all good things, some come at a price. Ignore the crap and enjoy the benefits. They are there, if you allow them to be.

The camera is the one feature that makes me consider getting one. Hasn't quite pushed me over the edge yet.

I dvr a lot of tv and skip the junk, but some things, like sports, I want to watch live. And suffer.

I hate it when I misplace things. I want to check the car's computer codes. I have an OBD2 reader, I just can't find it. Spent some time looking through tubs this afternoon. No luck. Went through the car, under seats, in storage areas. No luck. Tomorrow I'll have to waste hours systematically looking. I haven't seen it in a year or so, I know it's not in the fridge or freezer.

This usually happens when I put something away in a special place so I won't forget the location.

This happens to me all the time. It's usually in front of or over my nose...

I DVR sports, usually. I'll start watching after it's been going for 40-50 minutes so that I can skip the commercials and some of the announcer babble. I hate when I catch up to the live feed.

This is the very reason I own at least two of every tool. Put them in a place so I don't have to hunt for them, forget the "special" place, search until frustration kicks in, and I purchase a new one. Of course within 30 minutes of returning with the replacement tool, I find the "special" place. Rinse and repeat.

Most commercial-free sport? Gotta be soccer... The action is continuous and about the only time they break for a commercial is after a goal. Unlike NFL football where all the players just stand around and chat for long minutes while the game is delayed for ads!

I do that with fasteners and some electronic parts. Pulling them out of storage is harder on my back than it's worth.

David Ogilvy is the fellow whose name will be forever connected with successful advertising. I'd venture he is, to a large degree, how we got where we are today. By the mid-60s the image of ad men was personified in Darren Stephens. The ethics of the profession is not a topic of discussion at ad agencies.
