Gettin Funky

you have to be born with it. either you have it or you don't. It's more than just slapping a bass to a rhythm. you have to feel it through your whole body.

Like psychic ability, we are ALL born with it man, and it dont much matter where, nor in what color shell. So each of us have the Funk somewhere in our soul, and that is what makes Funk Funk, and that is why it must be felt.

It's much bigger than eye and eye.

And why some folks "get it" and some dont.

Yeah, ya gotta live DaFunk to truly get it, imho, and for IT to truly get YOU! :) And its a lovely romance!

Motown and listen to how he interacts with the drums.

I've also heard that the funky sound is a "black thang".

And you heard wrong. The notion of cultural/racial ownership of a musical feel is often perpetuated by people who: A) seek to elevate their own status or bolster their self-worth by insisting that they are in possession of a desirable quality that "others" will never be able to obtain solely because those "others" belong to a different race or have a different cultural background or B) like to impose a degree of exoticism on, for example, a musical style by insisting that said musical style could not possibly be reproduced faithfully or with (and here's a great term) authenticity by anyone outside a given race or culture. Neither view is particularly valid.
