Getting a Ric...Treble Bezel?

The first thing I did when I bought my first Ric last month was remove the cover and install a Cove Deluxe (the one with the ridge for your thumb). I'm one of those who feel the cover looks great but is an annoying obstacle. I'm very happy with the Cove doo-hickey.

Good video here on how to remove cover:

Do these bezels fit in a 1981 4001 pickup surround that does NOT have the cutaway section under the strings? All I can seem to find is a 4003 cutaway style.

I have the Chrome cove bezel on my Fireglo 4003S and it looks and works great. I had the standard black bezel on a Jetglo 4003 a few years back that looked nice also. I like the cove better than the standard however. Even though I use floating thumb about half the time, sometimes I like to anchor it, and the cove works great for that.

Chiming in - I put the "deluxe" version on mine. I like it, if for no other reason than to fill in the hole left after removing the pick-up cover. The thumbrest is good, but prior to that I had installed a "Zero-mod" thumbrest and I tend to use that more than the thumbrest on the bezel. I think that's more because I tend to play more over or nearer to the neck pick-up - probably from all those years playing a P-bass...

While I had a Ric, it had one of those. It didn't when I got it. I tried it with the cover, and that was OK, since I'm already used to playing a P with ashtrays and a Thunderbird with ashtrays. But, I liked the Ric better with out it. It was an aesthetic thing for me. The hole around the pickup looked unfinished and cheesy to me, so I put in the flat version. It was a huge improvement to my eyes. My fingers liked it, but liked it less than my eyes did. My thumb floats most of the time anyway, so no need for a tug bar or thumb rest. Occasionally, a finger style picking finger would tangle with the raw edge of the bezel before the filler went in, but that was such a rare occurrence that it wasn't a primary reason to get one.

That Ric is still floating around somewhere. It's a 1998 with a really dark Fireglo finish that could almost pass for a reddish sunburst. I haven't seen another like it, so when it pops up on Reverb, I recognize it right away. It was a very nice one, but for some reason, nobody seems to hang onto it.

So I found out the 4003 carved-out version works with the 4001 flat surround, so many manufacturers have simply discontinued the 4001 flat version. I purchased a 4003 cove-style from tubeampology.com. Should arrive today.
reviving an older thread....
I have an inbound Ric 4001 that I want to add a treble bezel to and the only treble bezels I can find in the US anyways are the 4003 bezels. Quatzu (or anybody else), did you ever get the 4003 bezel for your 4001 and did it work? Can you share some photo's of it installed?
thanks, dj

Also, check over at tube ampology. They make several versions, including cove, thumb rest and standard versions for both 4001 and 4003 models, in chrome or black versions.

thanks for the link and such. I saw the ebay auction but it is from England and would cost something like $56 after shipping. I was hoping to find one in the US since that is where they are made. However I am considering it as a last resort. I sent an email to tube ampology earlier today but so far no response. they show as being out of stock for the 4001 bezels. Hopefully they will be available soon.

thanks,
dj
