Getting frustrated with half the band

Stumbo is on to something.

- You get 1 point for dumping the problem 2nd guitarist (addition by subtraction).
- Add another point if you replace him with a good keyboardist
- Add another point if said keyboardist can also sing (lead preferably, or b-vox at least)
- Add another point is said keyboardist is a good-looking young female

My .02

Guitarist #1 really doesn't like being the only guitarist in the band. He sings a lot of lead and there are parts he just can't play and sing. We were a 3 piece for a few months and he hated it. We've actually been looking for a keyboard player to expand our possible songs, but they appear to be more rare than bass players around here. They don't want to talk if you aren't gigging every weekend night and that just will never be us.

Band Management canned answer #1.

Yep, it's time to TALK to the GUITAR PLAYER. Find out where his head is. Also, TALK to the drummer. Find out where his loyalties lie. Is he with the band or the guitar player?

FWIW I'm not opposed to changing circumstances for convenience as long as it's a two way street. Apply some 'carrot and stick' here.
You could offer to alternate rehearsal spaces on the proviso that the members who benefit do some extra rehearsing to make these sessions valuable. They need to make the travel worth your time.

As to your guitarist's song choice issue? He joined a top 40 style cover band, he's got to come to terms with that I'm afraid. If he doesn't want to play certain songs there should be a good reason.
