Getting more mids without the grind?

I'm using a BDI21 into a PA. I've got the mids on the board as high as they will go without grinding, and I want more mids. I tried a Boss GE-7, but that didn't help, it pretty much made it grindy.

Any tips or ideas? I'm running a SD P/J pair through my pedalboard, into the BDI21 and into the PA.

Would a Boss bass GE work better? Or should I scrap the BDI21?
