Getting My New Amp...

I've got ~ $600-$800 to spend on a new amp. I'm going to be getting a new bass as well, and hoping to get a package deal for the whole thing ~ $2,000. Right now I'm deciding between getting a good Fender Jazz or a Stingray HH 4.

Anyways, the guy I'm taking lessons from recommends getting something from SWR, Hartkey, Galien-Krueger, or Ampeg.

I've noticed a lot of bass amps in this price range, and I'm going to try some out today at a guitar shop, but I'd like to hear if anyone has had positive experiences with amps in my price range from the brands listed above.

Thank ya.

Actually, check out everything you can plug into. Between your ears and your wallet, the right amp for you will be easy to spot. And, have fun in the process, I wish I could go amp shopping, but alas, those days are all behind me. Best I can do these days is the occasional stomp box. Good luck.

All of the amps, and the two basses you stated will give you about every tone known to man.

Go to a store, and only GC as a LAST option, and try them all out. Thats better than any of our opinions.

Though I really want a Fusion 550... :atoz:

I have owned a GK 400rb, a GK 700, GK 1001 and an Ampeg SVT111 Pro. All were good amps but the GK1001 had a power supply problem and kept stopping during gigs. The Ampeg sounded great but was very heavy. I now own a Markbass SA 450 and it weighs 3.5 kgs. Sounds great, has plenty of grunt and lots of tonal flexibilty. As far as reliability is concerned i'm not sure because I've only had for 6 months. The Ampeg was very reliable (5 yrs and no trouble) the GK 400 likewise. As i get older I really appreciate lighter weight and a smaller size cab. I have just bought a EA NL210 cab. It seems great. Good luck.
