Getting Old

I have been following and commenting in this thread for a long time.

I’m not getting old . . . . . . . I’m there!

Will be 77 in one week and still playing every week, 1-3 times per. I still stand during the whole gig, every gig. Pretty stiff the next day but that’s fine.
Right behind you at 72. Gig only a couple of times a month. Sometimes my back gets sore by midway through second set. Always stand except acoustic-style gigs which are rare for me.

Injuring yourself while sleeping.
Hey, that's no joke. Every once in awhile I bite the inside of my mouth hard while dreaming of biting into something delicious. Unfortunately that delicious thing turns out to be me!

Like the Simpson's episode where Homer eats himself, but in real life.

Or the line in classic movie "A Boy and His Dog," where Don Johnson turns to his almost starved to death telepathic dog as they sit over a stew made from his duplicitous girlfriend, and "Dog" says "She was a woman of good taste, if not of particularly good taste."

At 75, I'm still in good health although I'm certainly not as strong or have as much energy as I did 10 years ago.

But the days are mine to fill with what I and my wife want to do. I have enough $ in retirement funds to avoid counting paper clips, which is a nice thing. I'm near completion on a book I'm writing, and I'll be happy to finish it.

Last night I played for a couple of hours with some friends who meet and play guitar - I just joined. It reminded me that heavy basses are NOT my friends, and that standing for two hours, even on thick carpet, is not good for my feet. No problem, I have my own portable seat and where we practice there are some nice stools that are just the right height for a guitarist or bass player.

What I DO need to do is stay after myself to get more exercise. I do Tai Chi, which is good for flexibility and balance, but I need to spend more time on the elliptical machine and Bowflex we have. I've always been healthy, and I have coasted a bit on that health. Now that my body is more challenged for energy, I have to invest more work in it.

@ 58 this month, trying to let go of aggravation... but it is always in my face

- at work: favoritism, ass kissing, back stabbing. It's not what you know, it's who you know. It's not what you do, it's who you know. I hate it
- on the road: drivers are aggressive, distracted, tailgate, and don't give a **** about safety or speed limits or courtesy, I hate it
- technology: everything is based on ad revenue and invasion, I hate it
- economy: I earn a decent wage and am good with managing my money, but it is now being taken by legal theft due to inflation and increasing tax and insurance, I am now the working poor

"At least you have your health"

I do have family and friends and hobbies and music. And lots of anger.

A friend of mine at the gym, 21 years younger than me, has a good saying on this: "I don't wake up in the morning looking for a fight, it just finds me."

You pretty much described my life to a T. Sad, but true. :crying:

With 70 in clear sight, I sometimes feel I'm being held together with chewing gum and bailing twine.
Yes, but at least you can see clearly, so that's one win for the day?

When I got treated for glaucoma, and they got the pressure in my eyes down from 31 to 14, my stigmatism went away and I was able to shed glasses I'd worn since age 21. Now at 71 I have 20/20, but close-up has gone to crap, which may account partially for my many typos (AI does at least 40% of them).

Remember to change your bailing twine at least as often as you change your strings!
