Getting snubbed/standoffish musicians...

It's obvious to me. Many did not read it when you said they were Audience members. They obviously feel they are better than you and yup they ignored you to your face. They probably made a judgement against you as you said you had even gigged with some of them so obviously they don't think much of your playing. Yup you got snubbed and that group of people are rude. I'd submit to not let it bother you, keep it moving and it's their problem. Not yours. Turn the negative being snubbed feeling and use that energy to practice more, get better as a musician and keep the mindset that you're not going to be like that if you start to move up. And to the cats who are cold and aloof, and think it's acceptable Karma is a B.

A large portion (edit) of the human race is a bunch of sick, twisted, sad, scared bunch of small minded little people. The enlightened ones will be loving, patient, giving and generous with their time and energy. The two are easy to differentiate. Time spent on the former rather than the latter will be a drain on your energy and cause pain in your soul. Be well my friends!

Thick skin? Then why do you get yer knickers in a twist because people don't behave the way you expect them to? I'd be irked a bit, too, but I don't think I'd complain to the world about it ... I'd just chalk it up to experience and move on.

This is a forum section about musicians, not "the world". I am just pointing this out because I see a lot of people take issue with what people want to talk about on social media and essentially chit chat with peer sites. This isn't an official public hearing or town hall meeting, just a place to talk about bass related likes and dislikes. This guy wanted to talk about disliking being snubbed.
Sure maybe the kill themselves part was a little harsh. :-)

Don't assume you can read people's minds. There's all sorts of things that go on in peoples heads that can be mistaken for a snub or ignoring you.

Maybe it was a snub, maybe it was not. Since you don't know, why assume the worst? Might as well assume the best and think maybe they just didn't see or remember you. Or maybe they had so much on their mind they were oblivious to the world around them.

Getting all butthurt over it certainly isn't going to help if and when they find out how you feel.

Only you can control whether you take offense to anything. My advice is to never get offended whether people are trying to offend you or not.

Your misanthropy is inspirational :)

I will straight up tell someone "F%$# off than" so they surely hear it if they straight up ignore me, famous or not. I don't think I am special, but man being blatantly ignored sure does bug me. :)
Now that certainly solves the problem.
Because of course it's all about you. @Hoss Groovealot
EDIT:
Because they are well known that means that they don't get tired, and bothered by the constant interruptions of their privacy?
I once sat near a prominent bassist, who happens to be one of my idols, at LAX, who was TRYING to eat a meal at McDonalds. For the 1/2 hour I sat there I watched him be friendly and cordial, and downright friendly to no less than 30 people and signed autographs the whole 9 yards. He did not even get a bite.
I saw this and eying his order I went and got him a duplicate order, fresh n hot.
Brought it to his table and offered it, stating that I knew he had not had the chance to eat it, intoduced myself by first name, he did likewise.
He asked if he could sit with my wife and i, I agreed.
He explained that he might get some peace if he was engaged in conversation with someone, a cordially shield if you will.
So my wife and I chatted while he ate, he insisted he repay me for the kindness of the meal, for someone I did not know.
This is the only point I conceded that I did in fact know who he was, and that he was the primary reason I became a bass player, and this small kindness was the least I could do, a token of my esteem if you will.
When my wife and I boarded the plane (same one he was on) we had been upgraded to First class courtesy of my new friend.

Really, HE was First Class.

Point is---the poor man could not even eat in peace.

As someone who has achieved moderate notoriety in a field other than music, I can relate. I am an introvert. I prefer to keep my social interactions to a relative minimum and to schedule them on my time. There is an eventual breaking point, when you become well known enough, where you could basically spend your whole life talking to random fans. At certain times and with certain fans, it is ok, but there are a few types of people that I never liked talking to.

One of my least favorite types of people to talk to are the ones that I knew in the past, vaguely, who act suddenly entitled to better treatment than anyone else who wants to talk to me. There's often a sense I get from them that they are trying to validate themselves by me acknowledging our past relationship. Like us at one point being on the same level somehow means that they are still on the same level as me. There is this whole awkward dynamic that a lot of people get. It's this constant insinuating that they were just as good or better than you and you got lucky or "I should be right there with you, if you know what I mean."

It's just annoying. They made their choices and you made yours. Their choices lead them to success and your choices lead you to bring an entitled fan at their show. Neither of those things are accidents. Now you can choose to grow from that or you can stagnante and whine like so many do.

Yeah, that's harsh. Now choose to open your eyes to why them validating you means so much to you and you will know how to make yourself happier regardless of people's attitudes.

I have read a lot of rude stuff on here, but this may top them all, plus you clearly did not even read the OP. Ironically, given that he passed away this week, there is an Allen Toussaint song that was covered by Little Feat called, "On Your Way Down." Here you go:

Sunrise
Sunset
Since the beginning it hasn't changed yet
People fly high begin to lose sight
You can't see very clearly when you're in flight

It's high time that you found
The same people you misuse on your way up
You might meet up
On your way down

Vintage wines from the year '62
It's your thing, it's your thing
It pleases you
You got to frown when you cross town
You think it's an honor just to have you around

It's high time that you found
The same dudes you misuse on your way up
You might meet up
On your way down

You think the sun rises and sets for you
But the same sun rises, sets and shines
On the poor folks too
I don't mind you turning round
I myself would even like a little higher ground

It's high time that you found
The same people you walk on on your way up
You might meet up
On your way down

Why would we talk about peoples experiences and the human condition when we can have another Pbass thread or maybe one on how Leo got it right the first time, Well the third first time, but thats for the other 80 threads posted this month on the same topic

M3phisto, what I said is how I react when straight up ignored. I won't bug a guy busy having dinner or in the middle of personal stuff anyway so that is not going to happen anyway. After a show if dude is hanging out is more of the situation I am talking about. I did acknowledge that being ignored bugs me and that I am not special, I thought I was implying strong enough that perhaps it bothers me too much. And for a good reason or not, ignoring is a silent F-you anyway. And with a screen name of the dark lord himself, it seems odd to me that me telling a guy to F-off would bother you. ;)

Tis not the dark lord my son. Look up Faust.
I expect no one to believe me.:thumbsup:
It's also the brand name of some rather comfy shoes, and a whacked out character from South Park

I find it really amusing that most of the comments were made by people who either didn't read the OP or skimmed it. The guy was snubbed by people who he used to play with. His friend was performing. The ones who snubbed were in the audience. They weren't performing or putting away gear or setting up. Nobody famous was hassled or annoyed. I gather a couple of jerks snubbed him and he came home and vented to another set of people who are acting just as rudely.
