Oh yeah, Ian's prices are pretty cheap really, and he's a helpful dude. I'm out of bigass fuzzcash for the time being but I may have him build me something later this year.

Been busy. :hiding:

I did start working on a new project but I haven't touched it in a few weeks. Been a long time since I've built a pedal.

Hopefully, I'll have my fuzz face up in a few days with some clips. I've got the board done but I'm doing a round of troubleshooting.

I'm doing a ggg germanium with a bias knob... but RCubed, I'm curious, what aspects of the Axis Fuzz set of mods do you like? Any suggestions on mods from that set to add to mine? I've been reading about them here: http://fuzzcentral.ssguitar.com/axisface.php

I don't know much, but this sounded like a good idea: 0.047uF capacitor in parallel with the 1K2 resistor

First off, the input pot will help with the high output of active basses. It can also act as a tone knob of sorts if you tie lug 3 to ground. The other two capacitor additions really help tame the highs and help stabilize the circuit better. You will get less harsh highs but enough fuzz. It won't get that super saturated sound of a typical silicon circuit. Those harsh highs will usually cover up too much of the lows and drown them out. So it's more germanium like. The bias trimpot is also fun to play with. I made it an external knob on my pedal. Helps change the headroom of the circuit and almost can get you a gated effect with certain values.

I don't know if I wrote down what I exactly did but I built that circuit on my breadboard and starting tweaking from there. I definitely recommend upping the values of the input and output caps. They are too low for bass (well the input might be okay but the output should be larger).

Bumpin' this since the lovely piece of awesome as seen above arrived just recently. I don't have any sound clips or a full review yet, but I will say that this is a finely crafted chunk of greatness that sounds absolutely EPIC with a big ol' tube amp and low output passive bass. Heaving masses of low end, a very thick sound with great character, this definitely brings an evil grin to my face as the neighbores cower in terror.

I'm addicted to this pedal, but that's pretty much what Fuzz Face Type Things do to me. They just inspire loud, and that's a beautiful thing.

First recording, this is my rejected noise comp submission because I found something better. The normal fuzz is the Ghost Face, and the weird fuzz is the Take Flight Goose.

Starts with the bass volume knobs (passive jazz bass) rolled back a bit, then I turn them both up about 14 seconds in. Finally, I bork my way through some power chords as the woman closed the door on me. Sign of a good fuzz pedal right there.

I can't compare it directly to the Sun Face NKT-275 I had, but I can say I'm pretty happy with this one as a replacement. It doesn't clean up as well, and the low end isn't quite as natural as the NKT-275, but I like the character of the fuzz better. Slightly less fizzy, and has better volume control.

Soooo, my Doombender arrived this morning:

It sounds awesome on guitar, and surprisingly good on bass! It's a modded Tonebender Mk1, not quite sure exactly what mods it has but it sounds great. It's got a good chewy, gated sound and a lot of presence in the full frequency range (unlike alot of Mk1s that can sometimes sound quite weak). It's still got that Tonebender sound though! There's not too much low end loss that I can hear and there's next to no noise when engaged.

It doesn't work too well with my active but works great with my passive jazz. I might try and get a buffer to go before it.

I'll try and get a full review and soundclips sorted but it probably won't happen because I'm far too lazy :ninja:.

Hmm... a Tonebender is pretty much a Fuzz Face with a buffer in front so I'm surprised the active doesn't like it.
