Gibson, at least they're trying…Les Paul Junior Tribute Bass

Well I decided to put La Bella white tapes on this bass and I can report that the noise factor is insane. I'm going to order some copper tape today and see if I can fix the problem with shielding.

On a positive note, the feel and sound are incredible. I love the bouncy feel of these strings. Could play them all day. Effortless. If I can fix the noise, this bass will wear those strings forever. Or at least until I finally give in and buy TI flats to see what that's all about.

Interesting. I've never noticed a noise or hum problem with mine, and I've used it for a few recording sessions. The producer has never complained. The PU is a humbucker...right? Makes me wonder if you should also be looking for a bad ground connection in the wiring somewhere while you are shielding it. I've never had mine open. I'd assume that the wires to the PU should be twisted. Maybe someone forgot to do that.

The issue is only with tapes, since they don't let your hands complete the bridge ground while touching the strings. But yeah I'm going to shield the cavity and ground the shielding to the bridge. Maybe it'll help.

If you are looking for a hard case, I can tell you that the case for the Gibson Les Paul "Memphis" bass fits it (see pics). A very high quality case. I'm not sure this case is available today however, as I believe the "Memphis" bass has been discontinued. A call to the Gibson Factory Store in Memphis might tell you if they still have any extra cases, or if that same case is used now for any other offerings and still available.

Finally got around to shielding the bass. I used conductive paint rather than copper tape. It's dead quiet with the tapes now. Problem solved! I can now 100% recommend LaBella White tapewound strings for this bass. They're a great match.
Can you tell us where you got that paint?
I'm not having problems with my Gibson, but I do have a few others that could use this.

My case is the L&M Les Paul case , they’re actually made by Boblen in Montreal , who have also supplied many cases to Gibson . It just fits …View attachment 4614779
Looks like a nice case!
Quick question or two... Is there any real pressure on the headstock? Looks like a tight fit. Do you need to adjust the tuners on the middle strings? In other words, if the tuning paddles are long-wise with the neck, do they still clear?

Anybody have a case that fits these basses? There was another thread about cases specifically but it wasn’t completely clear to me which ones definitely fit and the thread fizzled out. It seemed like maybe Les Paul guitar cases worked.
I use a PRS gig bag that fits it perfectly. Not sure if you 100% need a hard case.
EDIT: should have mentioned it's a guitar gig bag

This would seem to be the big thread on these? CDN retailer L&M have Gibson month next month, usually low/extended financing rather than discounts. I rented a DC in cherry today, seems like a fun piece. I had a Jaguar ss, and have tried most of the Fenders, and never really seem to dig them. Played and considered a Gretsch, I know they are cheap, but man did it ever feel CHEAP, if you know what I mean. This Gibby feels much more solid than any of the above, so I have it for a month and if they have a good deal, I get most of my rent back towards it. Why not, my left hand getting a little arthritic, if I can reduce stress there I'll be very pleased.

I bought mine during Gibson month three years ago. I still love it, just put it down after two hours of playing. I played the mustang shorties, including the JMJ signature, and the quality of the DC has them all beat in my opinion. I have an SG as well, and I think the DC is more fun to play than that as well.

PS. It’s my main gigging bass too. Love the single pickup simplicity.

I agree! I have a beautiful SG Supreme (the flamed maple top version from the "guitar of the week" program in 2007), but I like the tone I get out of the DC better and play it a lot more. Have to admit, the SG is prettier though.
