I didn't love my Grabber at first but it's stayed with me all these years. 2 decades of being my main player.

Went through my archives to try and find some headstock pix of the G3 for reference. Also included is the Grabber headstock and the Ripper Cake that was made for my 21st birthday!

Grabber front - missing decal - difficult to photo but you can feel a lip around the decal. How clean the finish is around the logo makes me thing this was on top of the clear coat.

G3 front - you can see the nitro has cracked and hazed under the decal. This is now owned by Dom from Mogwai!

Got new to me Gibson case for Gibson 1977 ripper. In pretty good shape but covering loose in several areas. What is the best way to reattach?

nothing but speculation on my end. I’m guessing colored SG basses like they did for the guitars this year.

did hear from a dealer they are going to discontinue the gene Simmons TBird. Also my friend who works on the factory floor said they’ve been making the non reverse birds like crazy lately. Nothing new though on the bass front that he shared. But he isn’t allowed to share new products. So who knows.

Well crap, day 3 of the new year and I've already bought another bass. Pictures are not of the one I bought but it is identical and hopefully in somewhat equal condition.

Ive always like non reverse birds in general...Simmons TBird...how did that happen? Simmons did carry the torch for Gibson basses as Kiss did for Gibson overall, they deserve props for that.

I have to think it will be very similar to my SG Standard as it is made up of the exact same woods and electronics.
The only differences are the body shape and the finish.

The DC Tribute is totally awesome and I kinda wish the EB-11 had the same pup/controls.

I tried one of these several years ago and found it to be well-built but couldn't live with the neck profile which was way too chunky for my taste.

Hope you end up falling in love with yours, at first note.

Was it chunkier than the SG Standards's neck?

Also, I have 3 other short scale basses that I'm using Labella Deep Talking Bass flat wounds on. I really love those strings but I'd like to try something different on this bass. I still want the warm low end that Gibson's are famous for, any suggestions, I'm all ears?

I really like Dunlop flats. Great definition, retaining low end. For more of a vintage thump you may want to try Pyramid Gold flats. The silk colour should match the new bass

Yes. More in the respect of width, though. A bit difficult to describe.

If you want flats, I'd second the suggestion for Pyramids that @vates made.

The first bass I ever touched was a Gibson Victory Artist. Then my mom was told the price and I got a Hondo II p bass instead. So, for over 40 years I was on the FSO train and Gibson was hardly a thought. Then I got this

and everything changed. I fell in love. After a while I felt the desire for something I had never thought about owning and with the money my dear departed father left me, I bought this.

and now, I am a Gibson fan.
