It is Ember Red, a very uncommon 60s Gibson custom color. But yes, it looks very close to fiesta red.

Hey Guys - nice to see that bass again - Matt told me he was possibly selling it. It took me forever to finish it (sorry again Matt!!) but I thought it turned out to be a pretty cool looking and sounding bass.

I've heard rumors of an original Ember Red T-bird in New Jersey (owned by Kevin) - but never actually seen an original Ember Red Gibson in person - the problem is that over time the topcoat yellows so much that Cardinal Red and Ember Red blur together into a common orangey-red color.

Having painted a 63 and 64 P-bass in Fiesta alongside the RD Bass in Ember, I'd say the difference is that the Fiesta Red is more "pinkish" in tone and bit lighter also. Ember Red was used on 1958 Edsels; Fiesta Red was used on 1956 Ford Thunderbirds.

On the neck, there were two mods:
- the neck was slimmed in profile, but not narrowed - I probably could have done more but I was a little timid.

- the fretboard radius was changed to 12 inches (Gibson guitars) instead of the stock 7 1/2 inches (Fenders)

Hope you enjoy it and let me know if you ever need some touch up lacquer - I can probably discreetly mail you some in a little jar or a nail polish container.

Finally after so much looking and Haggling.

this is now in my possession...:bassist:

I would like to join this club!!! I will post pics of my Gibsons later when I have the use of a camera. But for now I will just simply tell you my Gibson collection! I have a 1975 Gibson Grabber, and a 1978 Gibson Les Paul Gold Top. Very proud of both! Like I said, pictures are soon to come!

I played an old beat up Victory Bass the other day that my friend has as part of his collection. Looked exactly like this one except with a good amount of wear and tear.
1981-VICTORY-STANDARD-1s.jpg

I kind of laughed at it because it was so dated looking, but I really enjoyed playing it. The slanted pickup offered both a very natural and comfortable thumb rest and the non exposed pole pieces allowed me to dig in without the clatter I usually have to worry about.
The neck was definitively non-fender, kinda wide but very comfortable over the course of the night. The bass was fairly heavy and had totally foolish strap buttons/locks. I have to say I was impressed and might be tempted to one day join the Gibson club.
