9 months and the baby is finally delivered! Strung her up this morning and the fret job is almost perfect. Only buzzing on 1 fret high up on the e-string! Plugged her in and man does she sound nice, just like an old TB should. The neck repair is solid and the action is good. I used a Warwick adjustable nut for now until I can make a permanent bone nut later next week.

If you look close, there are several chips in the paint job. Some of them are the pickguard screw holes, no big deal. This one isn't sticking well for whatever reason and I was pissed at first. But the more chips I get, the more she looks her age! So, I'm leaving well enough alone for now to see how she ages. Just waiting for my pickguard to come back from the shop and she's done for awhile.

OK, you're #39. Wow, love those Birds!!!

I want in.......

'76 Thunderbird #1. I bought this one new. All original.

'76 Thunderbird #2. I bought the body/neck on eBay completely stripped of all hardware, pickguards, etc. I was very fortunate to find someone with all the original hardware and no bass. He sold it all to me for a reasonable price.

i'm leaning towards the Hipshot 'cause i think the holes from the bridge on now will show and i'm missing the ferules.also one of the pups has a broken magnet,so i also need a pup.or maybe in can be fixed?

sorry to hear about the pickup. unfortunately they're potted in epoxy, so it's very difficult to get 'em apart without causing some kind of damage. there's been some on ebay recently, so keep your eyes open.

OK, I'll play

Love that lV Showdown. I had one (and looking for another) but it had a dead note D that I couldn't tweak out. I kept my natural V 5er though I put in pups from a 2002 bird. Just picked up a natural top "Money" Les Paul for $599 off of ebay (what a steal esp. with chrome pups and maybe the most comfy Gibby bass ever. GUYS- the seller still has a couple more in natural)

for when I don't want to take this babe out for a night of playing dives:

Check the Seymour Duncan website---I think they make a replacement for either a Grabber or a Ripper. The trouble with Gibson is that they epoxy their pickups into the cover. If it goes bad, you can repair it. Otherwise you could send it to Lindy Fralin (Gibson recommends him) and he could do whatever to get it working. He won't try the epoxied ones, though.

Now if SD doesn't have your pickup, they will custom make one for you, just give them the original for them to make a cover and the specs. I thought they charge a reasonable price for a custom made pickup---one of my RD Artists had a dead pickup and they made a copy that looks and sound the same for $180.

This thread makes me miss my RD Artist. I just wish they had made them lefty, I'd still have it if they did.

The other thing I wish Gibson ha done was make the Ripper with the Grabber headstock

Beautiful pics guys, keep 'em coming!
