Maple neck?! That sure is new to me, always believed Gibson's mahogany necks had a lot to do with their tone.
Any comments on tone comparisons between these 2 versions of eb's ?

Well, I don't know about maple necks vs. mahogany necks.... but I do know that Gibson eventually increased the neck length on the sg's. Had something to do with cracks in the body. That would definitely have changed the sound.
I just got the guitar recently, the bass I've had almost 20 years now. I've wanted an RD Artist guitar almost since I got the bass so I'd have a matching set.
It looks a little beat-up (the previous owner must have sweat hydrochloric acid, judging by the condition of the bridge), but it sounds great...and the action on it is outstanding.
I did the second rout- the rout under the pickguard is stock, and it's diagonal (in line from the stock pickup to the input jack), just about even with where the pickup is- I'll try to get a pic tonite.
You don't see too many of those Gibson heads! Seems like someone is always looking for that one or the AMP version of it.
ah, i'm joining this club soon. i'm having serious GAS for a EB/SG bass.
btw, if anyone has or has seen one for sale, tell me PLLLEAASEEE!
p.s. i have seen some of the nicest Gibson basses in this thread. wow.

Wow, a Gibson head, who knew? You're #35. Actually, back in the late 60's I bought a Gibson head with 2 cabs. I think each cab had 4x8s in 'em. I can't remember for sure, but they sounded good until you had to turn them up and compete with a drummer and guitars! I took it back and got an SVT with a 2x15 cab. Any history on your head?

Yep, that's a really nice example of an EB-3L. I had one a few years ago, but sold it to buy a hollow body, my main weakness, not to mention T-Birds!! I liked it though, a really nice sounding and playing bass. I even liked the long scale!

I wouldn't know about guitars, but my 2 70's Les Paul Triumph basses are mahogany.
I'd assume those are prior to 75/76.
I had a 75 LP that had a 3 piece mahogany neck and a 77 with maple. My T-Bird has the 9 pc laminate neck through
I played around with a 71-ish EB-1. I really wanted it, despite me hating the way it felt. Just because it was an EB-1.
If anyone knows any better, correct me, but isn't the only reason those got re-issued in 70 or whenever it was SOLELY because of Felix?
