Thanks vates! This is the bass I can't put down. I'd love to do a Darkstar but the bass is all original. I don't know if I can do any permanent mods. But knowing the way I am, I'm sure I'll replace that pup down the road. I have the original bridge and cover wrapped up in bubble wrap.

Nice RD. Fortunately I bought mine with the original case, which is quite big. Unfortunately I have the same problem as you for my Gibson Q-80 Bass which doesn't seem to fit standard cases either (also not the RD or a Victory case).

I wonder if a Thunderbird case would fit an RD? Not the form fitted type, but the type with the body end open. They are similar shaped basses.

I think the manufacturer of the original Gibson RD case was G&G, and I think they also do custom cases that might fit an RD. For my Q-80 I use a Fender gigbag, that works for me. The RD is a slimmer design than a Thunderbird, so the case for the T-bird would be too big to fit an RD.

It would be nice if they made a short scale version that didn't weigh 12 lbs......

I know about the Triumph and Les Paul Basses, but I want THAT Les Paul bass in short scale. It looks like a Standard Les Paul. Vintage-burst, cream binding, v-v-t-t and a 3 way switch. Maybe 2 Thunderbird pickups, and yes, not 12 pounds.

I own a number of Gibson basses but I just put together my go to bass!
I have a 1963 Newport, a 1967 EB2D, A 1967 Embassy, a 1974 Les Paul Signature and a 1979 T-Bird but I took a 2007 Les Paul Special body/neck & tuners, added a tuneamatic stop tailpiece, chickenhead knobs, an aged steel front plate and a pair of vintage vibe 60's T-Bird spec pickups that cosmetically look like Charlie Christians.
The Embassy is my ideal sound but that fragile headstock always worries me. This bass is it for me!

Well, I haven't seen the picture in your message when you first posted it.
Now I went back, clicked on the "quote" button and found a link with "img" tags in the body of your original message.
But that link still doesn't work. Maybe it works well for you, but not for others (some restrictions possibly?)
