Gibson EB bass! If you're jonesing..please read!

had been anticipating this for months! A Gibson "Mosrite" style bass! So I went to my local authorized dealer and ordered a cream finished one, paid extra for overnight because I just couldn't wait, even!! Well when is arrived and I held it..I was severely disappointed. One volume pot was inactive, and the second was wired REVERSE!! The shaping on the horns was un finished..like the "luthier" just said.."good enough" and didn't finish his job contouring it. It's fine for a $400 epiphone P.O.S. but not ok for a $1200 GIBSON. You guys let me down..I'm going back to the old p basses. Stick to guitars..leave the bass making to the pros.:hmm:

I'm sure it can. I've emailed customer service. I'm just totally turned off by how shoddy it was made. If I pay $1200 I want to be impressed and happy, and I don't want to have to wait another week for a quality instrument. It looks great at first glance..and Once I cheat the faulty pots, it sounds INCREDIBLE. I think it was just rushed, with no attention to detail.

That's really a shame to hear this about Gibson.

For the record, I bought my oldest son an Epi Les Paul about 4 years ago and it is a stunning instrument.

Maybe Gibson could learn a thing or two from their Epiphone operation. :hmm:

Absolutely. I was after a Les Paul guitar a few months back. The 'real' Gibsons had rough frets whereas the Epiphones had brilliant fretwork.

If it's simply aesthetics I wouldn't worry too much about it. I think it's cool, makes your bass stand out. I honestly don't see anything weird in the 'big' photo.

But the wiring mess OTOH... That's just stupid and bad QC. But you said you fixed it and that it sounded pretty killer now, right? If that's so, I wouldn't make that much of a fuzz, only if it affected tone or playability, or was just seriously messed up.

agreed. It's not worth the hassle of shipping it back and waiting, with the possibility of the same problems. I haven't rewired it yet..but If I turn the neck "down" (up??!) and the bridge fully engaged..it sounds great. Re wiring will void the warranty...but I suppose I'm not too worried. The point was primarily just a disclaimer to those who are willing to shell out top dollar for a Gibson.

Aren't these finished in nitrocellulose? That finish is going to "relic" soon enough anyway. The pots are another issue but I wouldn't get too worried about the finish, doesn't look bad from what your pics show.

Edit: never mind, I see you're talking about contouring not the finish.
