Gibson EB2 reissue

And there you reap the benefit of having that DiMarzio. I bought one of those pickups, but decided to sell the EB-2 soon afterwards, so it didn't make sense to put it in.


The mudbucker pickup sounded boomy, but had no muscle to back it up in a mix. It was the right bass if you were in an Animals cover band and wanted to get that exact bass tone down. But otherwise that pickup was next to useless.

I will agree with the earlier poster about the EB-2 being a pretty bass. It was beautifully designed, extremely well built, and exquisitely finished. But the tone... ooof!! Playing an EB-2 is like dating an incredibly attractive girl that's impossibly stupid.

let me throw in my 2-cents. i would not really be interested in a re-issue of the eb2, but i think that is because i have two eb-2's already (1966 and 1968). i really like these basses, i have both strung with pyramid shortscale flats i think they sound great. i am looking for a woody, deep, hollowbody tone so this bass is what works for me, it all depends on what sound you are after. i will agree that you are not going to get a huge range of tones from these basses so its a good thing i like that one tone.

for those of you on here hating on your eb2 i say put up on the classifieds or ebay so that i can add to my collection.

yeah, smcd is probably right, so after my love/rant about eb2's, i would still say that i would not be interested in a reissue, i have tried the midtown and it just felt wrong, sounded clanky, etc. so unless the reissue was built to the same specs as the original i dont see the point. i think someone else in the thread also mentioned picking up an original for the price of the re-issue, i would just go with that.

i think what this thread is proving is TO EACH HIS OWN

I'm assuming that you have fresh rounds on all of those Precisions, G&L's, and Peavey T40's of yours. Or you play very modern music. Or both. Either way I've decided to take your opinion regarding tone with a grain of salt.:scowl:
