Gibson G3

"Nope, Mike didn't get a Pbass 'till Billie bought a 70's for his birfday, then they recorded Nimrod. So neh!

I love Grabbers!! I have a G1, blonde, I love 'er!

It's just such a kickass bass!
I think Mike's G3 sound kicked the Pbass. The P is nice with his amp, but he's not loud enough most of the time!"

You are not arguing with me you are arguing with Mike himself. That info was taken right out of his mouth via an interview. The fact that he never owned a P Bass until Nimrod does not mean he was not using them on recordings. I have photos of him in the studio with Screeching Weasel in 1993 recording with a P Bass. As far as comparing the tone the last time I saw Mike play the G3 was when he was touring for Dookie. That's way too long ago for me to do an honest comparison (although I have a live video or two I could dig out). Either way I have never thought he wasn't loud enough!!

Yeah I read in an interview that Tre broke Mike's bass accidently on stage once, and even though he might have gotten it fixed, he stopped using it after that because Billie bought him a P-bass for his birthday and he fell in love with the sound. but your absolutely right, hes never loud enough. especially whenever they play anything off Insomniac. I think he shows a lot of his abilities on that album, the Screeching Weasel one as well. some of the other albums, I can tell he is more interested in the sound of the bass, as opposed to how he is playing it.. not that there is anything wrong with that.

do you mean he sued the p for screaching weasel, or green day?

'cuz thats what im tlaking about.. :)

Dookie and Insomniac sound amazing, IMO. There's more bass volume on dookie tho, Insomniac's guitar is awesome, i love that sound.

he sued the G3 live for everything up to Nimrod, thats for sure (mostly) with a rick too, which kicked complete ass, i love that sound !!!

I guess no one will know for sure except for Mike Dirnt and Green Day. but my guess is that he used his G3 mostly on Dookie and Insomniac, and of course all of their indie releases. He might have used a Pbass a little on those two, but for some reason I doubt it. I don't think his G3 got put to use on Nimrod or Warning at all. I'm not even completely sure if he uses it anymore, because of that rumor about Tre breaking it.
