Gibson gives back

The nice folks at Gibson have released a southern rock tribute Les Paul. It's a '59 reissue with a reverse sunburst finish and a little heart of Dixie peeking out from beneath the bridge p/u.
Gibson CEO Henry Juskiewicz said " We are humbled by the wide spread support we've received by some of the southern rock legends. We're honored to be giving back to a music genre and its community that has given so much to our brand."
Suggested retail is $9059.00 ( $2500 more than a standard '59 reissue ) with a limited run of 50 signed by Charlie Daniels, Jimmy Hall and Gary Rossington for a tidy $18,824.00.

just did a google on the tribute guitar and it seems Ricky Medlock and Dickie Betts are the only early southern rock guitarists of any consequence as far as Gibson is concerned. I can kinda sorta understand Betts, but a former drummer turned guitar player in what amounts to a (not so hot) tribute band? Don't get me wrong, Ricky is a decent guitarist, but he's being pushed as one of the guiding lights of southern rock guitar?
