Recently purchased a 70s tribute Grabber 3 and have run into some issues. I was wondering if you all could chime in. Did my own setup and got it to play with fairly good action and intonation in drop c but noticed some issues with my pickups. Anytime I play over the 12th fret on the low C I get some odd chorusy overtones along with the fundamental pitch. All other strings seem to be ok to my ear.
I initially thought that it may be a pickup issue so I decided to move the pickups away from the string but the middle pickup would very quickly be out of range and be barely able to pick up the string vibrations. Could it be that the I may have bad pickups? Could the pickups be too strong and be acting on the string causing that strange tone? Any troubleshooting ideas?
Quick notes:
I originally unboxed the bass with the bridge pickup set incredible high...I have heard that this is somewhat normal...don't know if that is the case.
I can't stand this bridge and may be looking at a hipshot replacement. Anyone have experience with this?
