I reckon this is a good sign, maybe the Mesa bass range has fired up Gibson's interest in basses generally.

Gibson basically F’s up every “brand” they bring on board. It’s like they sorta try but the half-hearted effort makes things comically bad.

You are perhaps somewhat misinformed. Mike’s designs in the Tobias era used the same top thickness; and there was the reveal at the forearm contour. Mike’s layup is planar; and so you get that reveal. Sadowsky has a similar forearm contour; but, they use a much thinner top laminate, which is bent around the contour.

The current MTD forearm contour is not as “aggressive,” and maintains more of the top wood. But, that is more the details of the contouring than the top plate thickness. FWIW

MTDs are kinda different beasts, although their price tag is a bit stiff.

Elrick is pretty solid and similar-ish to Tobias.
