Just bought a 2013 Gibson Les Paul bass. Not got it yet. It's an upgrade from my Epiphone LP bass which I think is a great. Just fancied the real deal. Also the Gibson has the rocker switch whereas the Epi doesn't.
Anyone got the Gibson care to comment on how good / bad they are?

Of all the basses I've had, the 2013 Les Paul Bass is the one I probably regret selling the most. Out of the box it was set up well, had a very comfortable neck and sounded about as good or better than any Thunderbird I've heard. It's a great bass; you'll enjoy it.

That's good feedback thanks. Not sure why they're not very popular with well know bassists. Maybe it's because it's a bass version of a lead guitar.
I have an SG Bass but get a bit fed up with the neck dive. The LP is more balanced.

I own the 2012 Les Paul Standard that has the oversized body and is chambered. It is a little on the heavy side for me.

Not really an issue, just that for those not familiar with it, it is a little on the heavy side and mine is chambered. I assume the Memphis model with the F holes is lighter and that the older ones that are not chambered are even heavier than mine. I also don't know if all the Les Paul Standards where oversized bodies or if they started that in 2012? It isn't as heavy as my Peavey T-40. Out of my 42 basses though, it is probably one of the heavier ones. I should weigh all my basses just to see where it actually falls in place compared to my other basses.

Also, notice that my headstock does not have the 'Les Paul' graphic on it.
Here is a review/advertisement for the 2012 version of mine.

If they weighed ten pounds each then it's only 420lbs. when you strap on. It's only rock & roll.:)

I did a 2 hour gig with it last Saturday and loved it. Didn't find the weight an issue. Probably as it's my first Gibson and I'm livin the dream!!

I like the sun burst on yours...it is not a clown burst like some of the others I've seen...much more subtle from natural to red...more like a sunset burst without the yellow. Very nice.

It looks even better at my house. ;) Anyone noticing a likeness to the Epi JC gets extra credit points. ;)

Interestingly enough, the current Gibson Les Paul Signature basses are indeed heavier than the 1973 models were. So I guess Marty was right? Heavy! :wacky::wideyed::wacky:

I have a 2007 flat top that I really like, some interesting sounds with TB type pickups.
