I can't believe you finally got it man, it looks really good, I imagine it looks even better in person as the grain in red guitars tends to be eaten up during flash photography. How do you like it? What do you think of the pickups? I still can't get used to the pickups in the extremes, I wish it came with a middle pickup too. Let me know your impressions. And congratulations!

It doesn't have as much grain as I'd hoped. A little here & there...mostly on the back, but nothing very dramatic. It's cool though.

I'm sort of surprised at how bright it can get. I was almost certain that I'd use both pickups all the time, but after finally playing it that has seemingly changed. With both pickups on, the mids are very prominent, almost overpowering the low E. And using just the bridge p/u is far too bright for me. Right now I'm digging the neck pickup with the tone control dimed. But I haven't played through my main rig with it yet, so I reserve final judgement until then....

Saw your other post man, thanks for the shout out. So I finally got around to recording the bass at my friends studio. Disclaimer:
We recorded after we went to a bar and it's just a 45 minute jam. The only bass used was the Midtown (stock strings) mostly on the neck pickup - it went through a Mesa Walkabout head, and the DI went to the board so that's what you hear on the recording. Don't recall the settings but the pre was about 12-1 o'clock. It will give you a good idea of what the bass sounds like for rock, which is what I think it was made for anyway. Enjoy!

They're very different basses, you know what the Rivoli sounds like(even tho' mine's a 90s reissue so it doesn't have the massive low-end of the original), the Midtown has a unique tone; the neck and bridge p/us both have useable tones and both together have a scooped tone. No neck-dive. Weight is fine.
If you are interested in the Rivoli I'd sell it, the Midtown is gonna be my go-to bass. The Rivoli is sunburst and has the original case. PM me.

Clips sound great sir.

I finally got the chance to take this girl through her paces at rehearsal last night & OMFG! Honestly, I was having some reservations & a slight tinge of buyers remorse, but that is a thing of the past. I am head over heels in love with this bass! Booming lows & clean zingy piano like highs. And if you solo the neck pickup I call it the "Destruction of Civilization tone." My bandmates loved it and kept raving about the tone.
I love the neck profile, beefy but not TOO beefy...and the big chrome neck p/u makes for a lovely thumb rest....and the bass is simply gorgeous. No other way to put it.

Some slight neck dive is my only complaint. Right now I have one of those Levy's car seat belt straps with the working buckle.....cool looking, but is not helping me in the least with the neck dive. So I'm off to purchase a proper strap.

But wow. Just wow with the Midtown!

I realize this is an old thread, but I'm seriously gassing for a midtown. I am not a fan of the 2014 body style with unsymmetrical horns nor the price. I'm also looking at the es335, fender coronado, guild starfire, and warwick star bass (Korean). Very tough choice, but I'll get there with help from these great forums. Thanks!

I have a cherry Midtown that I got last year during the big MF blowout. For $700 it was a great bass and a good investment. I have a Dearmond Starfire, and I checked out the new Korean Guild as well. The new Guild is nice and sounds good, but the Midtown is overall a much better instrument with a higher quality build and materials. Probably will hold its value as well. I now have a Gibson 335 Memphis on the way, and am curious to see how it compares to the Midtown.
