anyone know of a bass with a pickup combo similar to that of an RD artist? I only just noticed that the RD standard has single coils rather than the humbuckersr in the artist. Id rather not actually pay for an artist, given that theyre 1800-2000$ on ebay, way above what I want to pay (unless its an egc...).

  2. The FirstAct Delgada is pretty close to the RD, In both looks and price.

Cheaper actually. Does it sound very close? Ive only ever heard the RD in person once, and that was in a band setting so it was a bit hard to listen to.

Err, in any case, what kind of pickups did the original use?

They are actually Gibson series 3 humbuckers.

No other bass can do what the RD Artist can, due to the Moog board. Most active basses should get a close sound to one.

ESP made a Japan only version- The Edwards Bass I believe?

I have always found the Gibson RD basses to be such cool looking basses, however I have never had the chance to play or own one for that matter. I like Krist, however his sig model just seems too cheap and fake to me from the real thing.

    Exactly.

Yup. Unfortunately though, the RD style bass and the rest of the vintage-Gibson-inspired ESP/Edwards basses have a pair of Jazz Bass pickups with over sized plastic covers to kinda sorta match the appearance of the larger humbuckers in the originals.

    ESP | Artist Series | J

So while they look pretty cool (and by most accounts sound pretty good) they definitely won't cop the tones of the originals.

Eh, if I cant get a real one or a delgada for a recent price I think Ill either save up for a grabber or (save up even more) for an EGC. With an EGC atleast I know it will actually work.
