Hi!

Im kinda into buying this SG bass but I was wondering if its possible to make the wood less saturated looking? Like it you can stain the wood or something to make it look less cheap haha? It might also be the Lightning in the photos making it look very saturated I dont know?

Looks ok to me. And realize that thy never look exactly the same from the photos because of lighting. Play it a bunch and sweat on it a bunch and it won't look as saturated (but I admit I don't quite get what you're sayin)

Yeah he wants 11500 swedish crowns for it incl shipping. Should be ok price I guess if its in good condition and might get money back if I decide to sell hehe. New SG Basses go for around 20 000 swedish crowns and more!

Those satin finish basses were only sold for a few years. I'd suspect Messing with the finish would devalue it at least some

A good base / bass to do a refinish on. Pick a guy who can do it and a color. Oh btw Gibson finishes are Nitro.

Yep. That is the way that one is supposed to look. If you want to try experimenting with a different look that is temporary, get yourself a bottle of Old English oil and play around with it.

yes you can Stain it but only darker of course. It is not the flash (or lightning) , they actually kinda look like that in person. I always thought if I ever got one with that finish I'd refinish. So yeah , you can try and refinish in a solid color or simply add sealant and transparent.

And don't worry about devaluation of the bass , these were the cheapest Gibson available at that time .

I agree the Babicz is a major upgrade over the stock three point bridge. I love mine. It's a cool bass. I would buy it and rock it as is.

It'll look much nicer under warm/reddish lighting. I am often surprised by how good my basses look under stage lighting. They look fine at home, but on stage....wow!

I can't help. I like how it looks. Definitely into the woody SGs aesthetics.

The price is good for what it is. If you don't like the finish, don't buy it (or buy it and spend significant money on a refinish). These basses aren't rare here in Sweden so no point in jumping on one with the wrong finish just because of GAS. Personally I see no added value in the Babicz bridge, I like the 3 point and think it's a great and easy to use design, but that (like the finish) is a matter of personal taste.

A cheapskate option is to find a nice example of an Epiphone EB-0 and mod it. My 2017 one plays as good as any Gibson SG I've had my hands on (several through the years). Adding a bridge pickup is easy, and economical with the savings compared to spending Gibson money, and you can customize the wiring to your liking.

If it were me, I'd get one with a finish I liked. However, things aren't always black and white, so to speak. Like, maybe you don't hate the finish but just don't love it, I don't know. Maybe you think you could get used to it. But if it bothers you, considering the cost and/or effort of a refinish, unless you want a project, I'd just wait and get one that I like the looks of
