Gibson SG Bass

The new SG RI is garbage, it felt cheap and like a toy.

Disagree. I owned one for almost a year and it was a solidly made bass. I didn't like the scale length though.

The sound was like a bean burrito enduced fart.
That I kinda agree with!:D Not a very versatile bass IMO. I sold mine after 1 gig.

Sounded more like WET farts to me BTW!;)

Well, if you want to be really forward in the mix, then definitely the Jazz Bass. However, if you just want to fill up the entire low end, pretty much any EB-# will do......and then there's the scale length. Do you like long or short scale. SG RI= Short Geddy Lee=Long. If you prefer long, but like the SG, theres the Epiphone EB-3, or if you can find one, old Gibson EB-3L (long scale)

Ok, so the warranty isn't good.

I don't really care about the scale, its all good to me.
So the bridge doesn't have any defects? I just want to know random stuff about it.
I do not care about how other people do not like the sound, because I do, so that should matter the most. Right?

Just wait until you play it in a band setting. Solo I found the SG RI's tone bland and uninspiring. In a group... ugh... do you want me to go there?:eyebrow:

The Gibson 3 point bridge is a terrible design. Look forward to fun days trying to get the intonation right, and then have the saddle fall out of the bridge. Or, saying you do actually get it right, have the bass magically steer itself from true while it sits in the case.:)

I have to agree on the bridges, I have seen those 3 point bridges pulling themselves out of the wood because of the tension.

I had a Ripper before (an actual gibson) and the bridge was garbage as well. Getting that thing set up was a PITA.

I had no problem with Gibson support at all with my SG RI before I dumped it. I got someone live at Gibson on a Saturday or Sunday and he was great. It was a warranty issue and the dealer fixed it with no problem. Maybe I got lucky but it was great.

Don't think it is much worse than Fender or any of the other big guys. Not as good as Sadowsky or even EBMM, but better than Fender IMO and experience.

Hated the bass but loved the service and support.:)

Everything in that "warranty" makes me lol.

That warranty is pathetic!!

Do you have ANYTHING nice to say about it?

No.:p

In a band setting, this bass did not cut at all. All I got was indistinguishable rumble that sounded like something vaguely bassy.

My girlfriend at the time said it sounded like farts in a bathtub.

I played 2 rehearsals and 1 show with the bass before returning it to GC. The music played during the rehearsals was reggae and classic rock type stuff and the show was a reggae/dub show.

And no, it wasn't my amp's fault. I was playing through a pair of nice amps at the time.:)
