Ha you caught me. No Sir not at all. If I were to make that comparison it would certainly be a Warwick.
....and I love my PortaFlex even if it is the modern 800 version.
Oh my God......I have a Thumb and Vampyre but must admit though that the Buzzard is probably the best sounding bass I have ever heard. Literally...........sadly will never afford one!
i dunno, most warwicks might compare to watercooled porsches, the sg-550 doesn't seem too far off. My first thought was "eh, turbod karmann-ghia maybe"
You are probably right. Although my Harley Vrod (Night Rod) had a Porche water cooled engine and it was so bad it was bound to kill me (seriously) so it is gone and I am still here bragging about it.
A little off topic but since you have awesome taste in amps and basses you might appreciate another German salute. Noting the disclosure under my Avatar, if your maybe tired of buying basses and can afford one and are interested in controlling your own life instead of counting on the one group that tried to destroy Gibson Guitars, invest the funds and buy only an H&K! German perfection once again around the same time they perfected the bass.
There are some very good Bass guitar manufacturers in Germany. I am a bit biased however. My Mother was from Dresden, I was born in Schwabisch Hall, and I lived in southern Germany off and on for 12 years.
That is crazy - I loved Falco (rest his soul), "Der Komizar", (spelling probably jacked up) and Rammstein has one of the most PURE metal distortion tones I have ever heard even live!!!! My heritage is all German even the wife and visited Frankfurt last year. Incredible!!!!! I can't wait to go back. German engineering can't be topped. But I am here touting the the fact that US made guitars and basses are at least close to as awesome. Damn now I have to look up some Rammstein. Du du haste mesch..............
That Rammstein album is just plain awesome. I try to play bass along to Falco "Der Kommisar" and "Rock Me Amadeus". Love that. I like Nena because of "99 Luftballoons". I waqs in Germany when that song was #1. I love hard Rock and Metal but Nena is a guilty pleasure. Did you go see some bands in Sachsenhausen? My spelling is off too. My Mother used to tell me I should have married a German girl. She was right of course.
No man wish I had. We had a foreign exchange student from Frankfurt for a year and had to follow her parents guide. Saw a few awesome castles and had some damn good food! Nena was cool too. I recall those days well. Hell, my kids love that same stuff. Rock me Amadeus - must learn that on the Gibson. Wonderful country (after the war) and I had incredible, hard working generations of farmers to teach me right from wrong and oh the ass whooping's if I ignored their teachings, I will never forget. Made me a good man. Anyway as I said German engineering can't be topped. If something comes close now days it's from descendant's of those countrymen. Those deep thinkers are the reason we are discussing and playing the incredible instruments we are today!
A German designed the 4000 Rickenbacker "Cresting Wave". German Bass manufacturers take some American Bass designs and "improve" them. I will only buy German or American made instruments. My Mom lived through the Dresden bombings, she was 9. I can't imagine the horror she witnessed those 3 days. I loved Germany, it is my 2nd home. Also, my Mothers Schnitzel was the best in America
She worked in German restaurants while I was growing up in the states.

The Burgundy Ric I bought in 2002 from "The Rickenbacker Page", (if you want to get a Ric check that website often) and I think that is the actual photo of it from that site. The 4003S's from GC for good prices. They play incredibly well, love 'em.
I couldn't prove it but I just knew the Germans were the ones perfecting the American basses once I received my Thumb and plugged in. I could not believe the crazy superman jazz tones I was getting. I knew something magical had happened to the Jazz style pups that were in it. Now I know why. Bless your mother. Other great German bands are Accept and of course, the Scorpions.
So Gas on that Plate. And Dresden then and now. I think the German people have completed an impossible task rebuilding.
"Revolt against evil" a line from Balls to the Wall, My last band learned that song. It was a crowd pleaser.
