Gibson Thunderbird

I have just purchased a used Gibson T-bird, should have it in a few days. Just curious what kind of strings others are using, I will be using it for hard drivin rock. I have been using DR Lowriders(nickel) and Hi Beams(nickel) on my other basses. I will post pics when I get it, I'm totally stoked about this Bird

Just sold an Epi. Tbird. Loved the sound ,but couldn't get used the neck dive. May get one again ,but for now I really like my new Ibanez w/Zebra wood finish.

I use GHS Bass Boomers, ML3045's, on my Gibson T bird. My Epi Pro is about to receive a set also, will be removing the original set the bass came with. I own/use many types of basses, but they all have 1 thing in common: GHS Boomers.

Rotosound 66 is pretty popular on Tbirds.

I use them on my EpiBird, and I really like them. From what I have read, many folks prefer a brighter string on these basses. I have played a Gibson Tbird with Roto's on it and it sounded great.

I am sure there is someone who plays flats on his bird... I wonder what that sounds like.

I'm running DR Black Beauties currently, and have another setup with Rotosound SM77 Monel Flats on her.

The flats are bit dull and mellow for this bass, but interesting with overdrive.

A Thanksgiving T-Bird, how timely!!

Rotosound 66 are great. I think D'Addario EXL165 or EXL170 Nickel Wound are good too.

Careful not to bang the headstock. The neck at the headstock is thin, plus it's mahogany, so it's sort of suseptable to breaking. I' have seveal Birds and never had a problem, just need to be carefull is all.

You should be able to get nice low action. Set the next almost flat with minimal bow. The nice thing is the neck will hold its position. for years. T'birds stay in tune too!!

My Birds have better action than my Ricks.

You'll like the bass.

I have GHS Boomers on my TBird now and it sounds great.

I've been running light guage Dean Markley Blue Steels on my '77 since back in the 80's. I recently tried some GHS Boomer medium lights because GC was out of Blue Steels..................blech! no top end with my setup. Went back............still no Blue Steels..........get a set of D'Addarrio XL lights. ............better... but I'm going back to my Blue Steels as soon as finances allow. (I usually change strings about once a year........)
