Gibson to purchase Cakewalk

Couldn't find this posted here yet, but apologies if it has been. Just got an email alerting me that Gibson intends to purchase Cakewalk:

As someone who has been using Cakewalk software since v1 (and uses the latest Sonar Producer today), I am not sure how to feel about this - or, if I feel anything at all. Could lead to some cool products integrating hardware and software, or could muddy up the whole thing.

I know that there are plenty of folks who just prefer to use Apple/Protools, but not interested in what is the preferred solution in the recording world. Mostly, just curious about folks views on the deal if you use it currently, and whether you think it means anything at all - good, bad, or otherwise.

I went down this path a long time ago because, at the time, I couldn't afford to buy into the Apple/Protools game. Now, I just stick with it because I am old and it is what I know.

Sonar is a great DAW. Great UI and very stable for me. I don't know why Roland is getting out.
I'm hoping Roland R-Mix is part of the deal. I'd hate to see that come out of Sonar.

I'm not sure TASCAM knows how to run a software business. They really blew it with GigaStudio several years ago. Hope they stay out of Cakewalk's way.

I'm nervous as a cat about it. Gibson has a history of effing up not just some, but I'd say most of the brands they buy. I've been a Cakewalk guy since Pro Audio 7, but it's entirely possible that if they muck it up X3 will be as far as I go, and then I'll start looking at other solutions.

I LIKE Roland's handling of Cakewalk. A stellar bunch of guys putting out a stellar product, supported by major corporation money. I suppose it's possible things continue as usual under Gibson, but right now I'm just hoping the sale falls through.

Thanks for the good responses, apologies for not checking back in soon - in the middle of starting some new work... Again...

I am not, necessarily, negative on the deal, but will wait 4-6 quarters and see how things play out, before investing further in this path. I see why Gibson is doing this. The question is what impact will it have on the products I rely on.
