Gibson Victory Bass Appreciation Thread

Just been reading about these on fly guitars. The single pickup looks absolutely great.
The same case as for the RDs work- it is big but not as big as a TBird case.

They are really good basses but are a bit heavy. Mine are 11 lbs for the Standard and 11.7 lbs for the Artist.
The necks are like a big solid P Bass neck and both of mine have excellent necks. The Standard (passive- single pickup) is like a P Bass in sound and the Artist (active- double pickup) is a really versatile bass.
I had two Victory Standards. Much as I tried, I couldn't justify having two identical basses, so I sold one. Now I kinda regret selling it.
But I love the one I still have. It sounds better than any P bass I've ever played, and is comfortable despite being a little heavy. They are truly underrated instruments.

It's interesting reading different people's impressions of the same bass. Personally I would never say the neck of my Victory Artist feels even remotely like a P-bass neck, to me it's nice and thin, much more comfortable than a P. It's my all time favorite bass bar none.
Yes, it is interesting. I guess it depends which P Bass- my Victories are little wider at the nut than a Fender B neck and about the same as a C neck. They are thinner through than my P Bass necks.
So this thread got me thinking. I've been learning songs for a small gig, and most being older classic rock kind of stuff. I haven't played anything but my five strings in about twenty years, my jet black Victory Artist is in its well earned retirement. So I just pulled it out for the first time in ages, and instantly remember why I love this damn bass so much. It is the best playing bass I've ever played, and sounds just so perfect. It even holds it's own sitting on a stand right next to my outrageous flametop five string Warmoth Explorer. But more than anything, it is pretty much effortless to get a great sound playing this bass. I'm going to take it to a rehearsal tomorrow night, and can't even remember the last time it left the house. I probably haven't played it with any group since the early nineties! This was my very first bass guitar, and I sure can't think of a better way to start off. So there is nothing but Gibson Victory Bass Appreciation here. Anyone who thinks Gibson had ever done better than this, must be crazy!
Found this thread while looking for info on the current value for Artist basses. I started playing 5-strings and never looked back. Never thought I'd get rid of my artist but it's no good sitting in the closet and I'm getting old. Hate to think what will happen to it when I'm gone. Better to make sure it finds a good home. Going to try and sell it locally so I don't have to ship.
Is anybody else out there making plans for their beloved basses when they won't be around to play them?

Technically all models can be passive, but only the ARTIST can do both active/passive
Just got an Artist, it’s amazing.
Cool looking bass! I know I'm wondering what will happen to all my music stuff when I'm gone, basses, drums, amps. and more, kinda like the family heirloom antique furniture from the 1800's that are only cool to me. Kinda makes you wonder.

Not really expecting anything from this but a guy can only hope, right?
When I was 16 my dad helped me buy my first full-scale bass, an '81 Gibson Victory Standard. My dad told me at the time that it was the only bass he was going to help me pay for.
It was purchased at the Heart O' Texas music store in Temple, TX.
I thought it was the coolest bass on the planet with the best candy apple red finish that I'd ever seen.
Sadly, after college bills began to pile up and I had to sell her.
I sold it to an old guy by the name of Ray Parker from Rockdale, TX.
Back in 2016 I lost my dad to cancer and I decided to try to find the bass. As you would expect, Mr. Parker had passed years before and no one in his family could recall what happened to the bass. Also, all the Heart O' Texas stores closed some years back. There are no special "marks" on the bass and I don't have the serial number any longer but the original hard shell case had a home made handle that my grandfather made for the case after the original plastic handle broke. As stated before, not expecting much from this post but IF you know the bass I'm talking about, please contact me here. I would love to buy it back.
