Gig bags and storage?

My basses tend to be split between home and the rehearsal studio where I work.
All of the basses that are at home are in gigbags, standing upright on the floor of a closet that is dedicated to pretty much nothing but basses-in-gigbags. (Lately I've been kicking around the idea of installing one of those wall-mounted guitar-hangers in that room, because I'd be more inclined to play at home if I didn't have to go digging through that closet to get a bass.)

I leave three hard cases with lockable latches at the rehearsal studio, and depending on what project is being worked on all three may have basses in them, or they might all be empty, or some in-between variant.

I have an ATA flight case that is in storage and only gets brought out if I'm flying or going on the road.

The basses I want to keep accessible are on wall hangers in my home office/practice space. The others that are not in the current rotation are in hard cases or ridged gigbags stored upright in the office, still accessible but not as convenient as grabbing one off the wall.

I found if I store them in the closet I am less likely to pick them up.

I built a two tiered shelf system. Upper tier shelf is slightly tilted up with a short ledge on one end to 1) clear standard 8 foot ceiling height and 2) prevent a bass from sliding off the shelf.

I store my basses in gig bags sideways like books and it works great. Easy access and a very efficient use of space. This would work in a 2' deep reach in closet I believe.

I have almost all gig bags and trying to figure out the best way to store my basses. I suppose I can buy more stands and just leave them out.

How do you do it?

I'm with most here in that I like to keep one or two out for easy grabs. As far as storage is concerned, my biggest worry is where to put them while there in the bags. I can stack hard cases obviously.

I like the closet method. I could always put my clothes in boxes :-)

Most are out on stands, I have quite a few in cases. I have some wall hangers, but haven't figured out the best place for them. Noticed I could use a few more stands, caused by recent GAS and visitor 6 strings I work on for people.

Since I currently live in a Micro-sized apartment, all 3 of my basses are stored under my bed. G&L in factory SKB case and two in gig bags. I put a few silica gel packets in each bag and the case.
I have all my basses (except for a Fodera) in gig bags too and have them standing up. A tip my guitar/bass tech told me: silica gel is bad for wood instruments...it will suck the moisture out of them. Besides drying out of wood, you can get fretboard shrinkage and frets sticking out past the edge. I actually keep a Boveda humidifying pack in each case to regulate the humidity. They sell a 49% pack for instruments. Here's the link to their website. Boveda Store for Musical Instruments - Boveda® Official Site | Find Boveda Here!

Edit: I also live in SE Florida so the A/C is on most of the year and it takes a lot of the humidity out of the air in the house. I have to add some in the cases to keep the basses from drying out.

Wall hung, except for right now. I am remodelling the office / studio and have everything in gig bags or cases, out of the area to protect it from paint and drywall dust...

These are hung on Bluecell angle wall hanger brackets.

String swing.

You might be able to make out, there are 2 SX Basses, and 1 SX Strat copy, they all have their own gig bags.
The Squier Affinity Jazz has a super heavy padded Musicians Friend (Not Musicians Gear, but actually Musicians Friend branded) gig bag from 2003.
The Ibanez SR480 has a Gator GLBASS case.
The acoustic Guitars have Musicians Gear gig bags.

All told, functional, although the gig bags are only marginally protective...

In full disclosure. I want one more bass. A simple cheap one too, just been waiting for it to come in stock. An SX Ursa 3 Alder RN 3TS. Love the Rosewood neck with burst finish look... Probably keep the OE pickguard on that one...
