GK 1001RB in a 2 space rack?

Great head tho, very muscular. It has more balls and "percieved" volume than xxxxxx

fixed it for ya! :D :p

i think, for what i do, it's the best little amp (20lbs is pretty decent).. i play jazz, rock, blues, etc with it. love that little amp.. right now i'm using a little aggie 12 with it only putting out through 8ohms.. it's enough for me! :)

I'd been using my GK1001RBI in a 3 space SKB had either my BBE Processor or Furman power cond on top of amp in same case. Played outdoors, Houston summers, the amp had no problem. Of course with the fan on top more space is better. Just to lighten my load I took the Furman out, now there's a whole space above amp. I use it with 1 GB Neox 212T cab, 540 watts into 4 ohms, sounds great. Its my new small rig, goes to all my rehearsals and small room gigs.

Bought this amp new a few years ago from MF. I did have some issues when it was about 4 yrs older, where it would just shut down for a few seconds or I guess go into protect mode, light would go to red in mid song, then back to green and I'd be up and running. Was a real PIA cause I did not know what was causing it and it started happening alot at gigs. Took it to one shop he said it would not do it for him and the fan was spinning fine. A few weeks later did it again at a couple gigs, next shop said he checked it out, checked the bias and cleaned it out and no more problems since then tho I dont really know what the fix was, I shoulda asked.

I'd read where other's had these issues with em too. Mine seems fine for some time now, its my small gig/backup amp.

The manual says that it needs only 1/2" of space above the fan intake.

I mount my 1001RB-II in an SKB "X" rack 2U - the shallow model. If you could see inside the back and see the clearance this particular type of rack provides at the top, you'd realize how doable it is. I wouldn't recommend most flat panel (Anvil-style) 2-space racks, but because of the way this particular SKB model is molded, there's all kinds of room that exceeds the 1/2" requirement. I've been running this for almost three years with no problems. If you want a hard rack case with the minimum size, that's the way to go.

You do have to remove the feet and maybe the side handle (can't remember), and you have to remove the chrome handles and flip 'em around to angle them inward so the lid will fit (two screws each handle). Piece of cake!

Will the 1001 get too hot since the fan is on top?

I have a GK1001RB and a GK700RB in a 4-space rack case - one right on top of the other. There is very little space between the 700RB on the bottom and the 1001RB on top and not much above the 1001RB. I've played over 130 gigs so far with this rig and had ZERO problems.
Yeah, GK says to allow room but those amps aren't very big/deep and with the fan, air DOES flow. Mine have never gone into thermal shutdown, never so much as blip. My typical gig is three one-hour sets. I turn them on an hour before the show and leave them on. It's a non-issue.
