GK 700rb problem - Help

I had the same problem with my 400RBIII. I took it to GK (I'm only 40 miles away) and they replaced the input board. It was only about $140.

I've had the same thing happen to my GK... It could be a safety overheat feature or something... I stopped playing mine for probably a day or so, and it worked normally, and hasnt done it sense...

Yea same here. I had a 700RB, I was rehearsing with my band before a gig the next day, and I never set my volume higher than 4

Have other people had problems with their GK?

Try jumping the effects loop with a short instrument cord. Sometimes the contacts in the jacks become corroded from oxidation. If that fixes the problem, then clean the contacts with an appropriate contact cleaner. There's one spring loaded contact that is supposed to connect the preamp to the power amp when there is nothing plugged into the effects loop.It's a good idea to do this periodically anyhow, and this problem can occur with many amps, not just GK, that use this same system. A simple switch would solve the problem but for some reason, they'd rather have the hassle and expense of staying with the old way of doing it.

I had this problem with an old GK400RB. I must admit it was many years before this problem manifested, but it was a pain to diagnose because it was intermittent. I just carried a spare instrument cable all the time after that.

I went to use the amp today and it's fine. I have no idea of what happened, hopefully it won't happen again.

wow..my 700RB 111 did that once when I was practicing at a low volume but never did it again.

Clean all those jacks anyhow. Carry a spare short instrument cable.

And replace the battery if you have a preamp in your bass. That "farty..sounds like the speakers were blown.." has happened to me when I just needed to put a new 9v in my bass !

I never thought about that! I have 2 batteries in my Bongo.

My GK 700 RB-II had a similar problem. It was repaired under warranty.

Then the input jack went, it too was repaired under warranty.

Then I traded the head in.
