gk 700rbII Bi amp question with harkey cabinet

I have the gk700rb an a hydrive 115 cabinet,, I was thinking about getting a 4x10 to work with this system,,,Can you BI amp this set up? Or do you need GK cabinets,,,,

Also is it best to go with another hartkey I seem to be looking at some of the SWR stuff,,,,,

Not sure if these amps have proprietary wirering that just the GK cabinets will work,,,,,,

As long as the TOTAL load is NOT below 4 ohms.

The 'bi-amp' in a G-K refers to the two amps, one amp being for full-range and the second amp a 50 watt high-pass for the horn.

If you do NOT use the speakons and instead use the 1/4" outs and defeat the crossover, go ahead and plug in as many speakers as you want - NOT going below 4 ohms total.

Usually, TWO 8-ohm cabs are used, combined for a 4 ohm load, with the 700-rb.

+1 w/the ohm loads. The BI-AMP feature is only a 50 watt amp for a horn, and is designed only to be used w/a GK cab, and you need the GK speakon cable. I never used the bi amp feature, and ran all my GK stuff w/a lot of different cabs. Don't go below 4 ohms, and you'll be fine.

from what I understand about the Gk bi-amp feature is you can use 2 cabinets with speakons connectors an control the bottom end an the twitter(highs) independently on the gk700,,,,,

nothing to do with a 2nd amp,,,,

Just not sure if you need to use GK cabinets or any cabinet with the speakons will work,,,,

No. I own one. Two separate amps. You do NOT need to use the horn amp - crossover button is on the amp. When the horn amp is used, it has its own volume control.

GK uses a FOUR-conductor Speakon cable to utilize the bi-amping.

just got done looking over the manual again,,,an all I can see is you use 2 gk cabinets with gk specon cables an the 700ii controls them independently,,,,,I am not sure if we are saying the same thing,,,

page 7 in the manual is the schematic,,,

an there is 1 cable going to the 700II an it controls the highs an lows there,,,,

I can only assume you must use GK cabinets an special GK specon cables to make this work,,,

I just wasn't totally sure if you could use other types of cabinets

The two independent amps are for different purposes.

The more powerful amp would drive the speakers (i.e., 15, 12, 10) the second smaller 50 watt amp is for a tweeter or horn and is crossed over at 5 kHz. There is a diagram on page 16.

Concerning the Speakon wiring: Manual, page 15, 2nd column.

You can bypass the tweeter/horn amp by connecting your speakers with the 1/4" connections: Manual, page 11, 1st column.

If you want to plug a 15" speaker into the 50 watt amp, go ahead, but there will be no lows this signal is ALWAYS crossed over. And is ONLY accessible by way of the Speakon connector - check the wiring diagram in the manual.

IIRC the G-K Horn Bi-Amp system found in most modern RB Series amps is intended for use only with those G-K cabs which support this feature.

If one wishes to bi-amp non-G-K cabs with a G-K head, then the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] is the way to go.

the 700rbii does not actually bi-amp. it is a horn amp sys. gk cabs are already wired to work with the 4 wire cable. however i use non gk cabs and the horn sys. it is a simple mod to any cab to wire it to work with this system if you want to control your tweeter volume from the front of the head instead of reaching around back of a cab. oh and its HARTKE. lol

Well it looks like we have solved the question,,,,Yes you need special proprietary GK cables an cabinets,,,

if you use others you need to modify the cables to make it work,,,,

no you need to modify the cabs and use gk 4wire cables or ones wired exactly the same as them.

Just use the 2 pin speakons rather than the 4 pin speakons. >.> I feel like I just walked into a primary school or something. You want to use the bi-amping? Get GK cabs and the 4 pin speakon cables. Otherwise, you can't use it. I don't know of any other cabs that use the same bi-amp feature as GK.

primary school? the op had a good question about the bi-amping on the 700 and other cabs. and if you have above a primary school understanding of wiring just about any cab will work. it is NOT nessecary to use only gk cabs. now if he's talking about tru bi-amping a 115 and 410, no that won't work.
