GK + Ampeg ?!?

Hey everyone, just wondering if GK and Ampeg would go together well? Like say a GK head with an Ampeg cab...would this work? I have heard some people say they don't go together well and others say the opposite. Thnx for the input... and for those of you who do have a Gk + Ampeg stack can you tell me your setup?

Oh yeah they do! I have a GK 700RB-II and a Ampeg SVT-410HLF - Yeeowza!!! :hyper::hyper:
I do all my recording with that combination. And for just plain big fun, I use my SVT-VR head. The VR is way tooo noisy to record with - that is why I bought the GK. The GK still gives me a similar Ampeg tone/groove.

I'm using a 1001rb-II into a 610hlf,

I actually prefer the tone of GK into a Mesa cab that I had but I sold it because it was a bit small but I like the way the Ampeg cab I'm using fills the room. Ideally I will either get a new cab for the GK or a new amp for the Ampeg cab, both the amp and cab work together well though, I think that a Ampeg head would match the cab even better (I've tested some) and I've tried cabs with the GK that worked ever so slightly better too.

Also, I have to eq the GK a bit for the cab. (boost the low mids a lot and turn the bass down a little) I'm getting a very nice aggressive sound, the problem here is that I'm worried the eq settings are going to effect my line out signal and make it too middy, it's nothing too extreme but I've always had it flat with other cabs.

One of the most satisfying and best bass sounds I've ever played with live is at a local club where an SVT 8x10 was house equipment, which I powered with my GK 400RB.

I say go for it; IME with GK, the heads sound great with a variety of cabs and deliver ample power. :bassist:

I settled on a GK 1001RB-II and an Ampeg SVT-810E for my rig and it is a perfect match. They sound like they were made for each other! I recently decided to replace the 810 with a stack, as the 810 is too bulky for me to load in and out of my car myself. Last Friday, I bought an Ampeg SVT-410HE in time for a gig over the weekend. Again, the GK and Ampeg combination is a winner. I got more than enough volume for a club-sized venue and an improvement in tone as the 410HE has a horn for high-freq's.

A good friend of mine uses a GK 1001rb II (which I got from the dude at a great price) through an Ampeg 810e and it sounds wonderful. It's actually a wonderful combination, the GK seems to be a rather bright head and that coming through a tweetless cab not only tames out the high end a bit, but sounds wonderful. I'm personally not a huge fan of the fridge and the GK is the only head I actually like through them. That doesn't mean I don't like sealed cabs, because there are many out there that do it IMO better. I use a GK 700rb II but not through an Ampeg cab, I run it through an SWR Henry the 8x8 with great results. GK heads are great!

When I (rarely) need more volume or presence, I add a 2nd 115.

Im enjoying it so much that Im not bothering to take out my Aguilar db680 rig anymore (too heavy!) A 2nd 115E - thats an interesting option to the 410!!!!

10's just never did it for me. Even when I had an SVT, I used 15's.

I've got an Ampeg V5 (mid 80's Japanese), similar to a V4 or SVT100 with a V4B 4x12 and it hasn't been out of the garage since last year!

I've resolved most of the problems in my above post^ everything is sounding good after I rolled of a lot of treble on my bass. Yeah it's a good combination, the 610hlf has made a big improvement to my sound, insted of just cutting through the mix, it punches through. :)
