GK + Ampeg ?!?

Hey everyone, just wondering if GK and Ampeg would go together well? Like say a GK head with an Ampeg cab...would this work? I have heard some people say they don't go together well and others say the opposite. Thnx for the input... and for those of you who do have a Gk + Ampeg stack can you tell me your setup?

Heads and cabs are separate entities.
There's no real compatibility or incompatibility between different brand heads and cabs as long as the cab can handle your heads power and they match impedence-wise (ohms).
Aside from that, use your ear to decide if you like the match.

I've just picked up an Ampeg fridge and I tried it with my GK1001RB. Oh. My. Good. God! That, to me anyway, is a match made in heaven. I do have another couple of things in the rack, i.e. an Aphex 204 exciter and a compressor. Well, to me, it sounds awesome.
I also have a Marshall VBA400 all tube head and that sounds sooo fantastically good through the fridge too...once it gets played at some kind of decent volume but something I can't quite place about the sound of the GK through the fridge just feels wonderful. I was gonna take the Marshall to my next gig but I'm leaning towards the GK at this stage.
Here's a pic of the setup. I'm in awe so far.
The colour even matches for goodness' sake! Well, nearly, it's grey at least...

I have an Ampeg 410HE paired with a 1001-rbII
I'm trading the 410HE for the HLF today so I can my five string through it.
I was happy with the 410HE til the other day when I bought a speakon cable to hook it up too.
OMG have i been missing out.
Tone heaven out of it now - I cant wait for the 410HLF to hook it up too.... oh man!

I run a 1001RB-II through a 1990's Chinese Ampeg 410 (not sure the model) at rehearsal. Sounds great.
I also use the 1001RB-II through Sadowsky and Mesa 410s. Mesa sounds really good with GK heads too.
Also, I used to run a 700RB-II through the same Ampeg cab and it sounded great also.

I run a 700rb-II through either a Mesa 610 Powerhouse, or an SVT410-HLF, and it sounds great through either... I've also done plenty of gigs with that head through an SVT810e, and it works quite well with those, too...

Gk 800RB into Ampeg 8-10. Rickenbacker 4003, jetglo. If something out there sounds better, I have yet to hear it.
Oh Yea, I've been running a GK1001 into a SVT810 in small to large clubs for 3 years playing a Spector and 1980 P-bass both loaded with EMG's P/J.
Very punchy. The mid knobs are a big benefit of the GK1001.That said, my GK1001 crapped out on me last week. Just died. I used my old GK 400 which sounded great also. But I bought a used Ampeg B2RE, great deal from a friend and this head sounds great also. i'm still getting used to it.
But the GK/Ampeg is definitely a good match up. Oh yea I run a Boss Bass Chorus, very ethereal.

Nice rig, but I'd put the amp on the bottom of the rack and put something under it to support it. If not, the chassis can flex while in transit and cause stuff to break.Here's a pic of the setup. I'm in awe so far.

maybe wasnt my sound but i couldnt get any nice sound out of my GK 400rbIII trough an ampeg svt 410 he. And i was playing a ray. Actually if you ask me to describe it id call it dull, messy, un-ballsy, blurry, trebely, un-warm. sorry but tahta was my experienca.

I tried to put the amp on the bottom but try as I might, the only place where all four of the bolt holes in the GK will line up to the bolt holes in the case is slap bang in the middle of the case. There are support brackets fixed to the back of the amp too, so it's not hanging there by just the front.
Every time I use this rig with my 73 P-Bass, I'm like, "that's the tone....right there."
Before I downsized my rig, I had an 800-RB going into an Ampeg 1540 (4X10 + 1x15). Sounded so great. It was an awesome rig, but way too big for the gigs I was playing.
Ooh yeah very nice that. Also, do you realise that if you put both your cabs next to each other, they are exactly as wide as an SVT810 is tall. Stick an SVT810AV on its side on top of those two and youve got one helluva stadium rig.
Obviously you'd need an amp capable of driving 2 ohms without trouble, such as a GK2001RB but hey, we can dream.

An 810 on top of two 115e's..my Lord, yes a stadium rig.
As it is for me, I hardly have my rig's volume turned up, it's a cool looking stage monitor most gigs with the FOH doing the bulk of the work. It sure can crank and get raunchy if needed though. The 800RB is a great amp through the Ampeg 15's, for me anyway.
Well, now I'm home from work, I can show you how well they fit together.
Sorry it's such a poor photo, I was at the soundstage and all I had was my cellphone.
As for the SVT15E cabs, I've never heard any with my GK. All the other 15s I've tried (Laney and Trace Elliot), I've always found them to be either a bit 'flappy' sounding or a bit overly middly. I sure would love a go with an Ampeg 15 but they're a bit hard to come by in the stores within about 50 miles of here.
