GK Backline 115BLX Speaker Replacement

As mentioned in this post I am looking for a 15” cab and amp setup. I don’t think I will go with any more combos. I would like a single 15” cab and a bass amp that will thump.

I have this GK cabinet and the speaker is weak. I would like to replace it with a kick-ass speaker. Any suggestions?

Thanks RickenBoogie.

I know it is not the best cab, but if I drop a 400 watt eminence speaker in there, it should sound decent, yes? I am being told so by some others I am talking to here locally.

I dropped a 15" Eminence Kappa 500 continuous watt driver in the cab. Initial testing in my living room sounds great with my new Carvin BX 1500 head. I will test at rehearsal Friday, but I think this works! Good tone, has some highs and deep lows with everything set fairly flat. I got the driver used from a friend for $75 so not a big risk here.

I know people here are real sensitive to "just dropping any driver" in a cabinet, but sometimes things just work, yes? :hiding:

I did the same with my 115blx. The speaker was blown and i replaced it with a 400W eminence. As i use the cab only for some special effects stuff the sound does not matter in detail but to my ears the new speaker made the cab more clear and a bit less low. Which is good for my purpose. I sometimes play this cab stand alone for fun on lower volume and like it.
