GK Combo Shootout...MB210 vs. MB212

Another 210 would push the same amount of air and each speaker would get approximately the same wattage. With the 410/210 combo the 410 would push approximately twice the air of the 210 and each speaker in the 410 would get half of the wattage of the 210 speakers, making it more difficult to match the outputs of the 2 cabs. How important is that? I don't know. The other concern is whether the MB 210 has enough power to push the 410. Where you're looking at a cab rated for 400W and the new 210 cab GK is coming out with for the MB210 is rated for 400W I would think there wouldn't be a problem. There are 410 cabs out there that are rated much higher that have reputations of needing a lot of power to really sound good. Something like that wouldn't work well with the combo. Again, the best way is to try it out and see if you like it, as ultimately you're the only one you need to please

MBE210 isn't out yet, and they keep pushing back the ETA so we're not sure WHEN that will be an option.

You bring up a good point, most of us have bigger rigs to handle the REALLY loud stuff. These combos are great at bridging the gap between really quiet gigs and OMG LOUD gigs. The MB210 moves more toward the loud side with the ability to add ANY 8 ohm cab and get more speaker cone area working for you. If they made an 8 ohm 810...it would work. It's just that at some point, the portability factor is compromised by using a huge extension cab.

good point. Its really not like I'm considering between too many different options. I either want to get the 210MBE or 410MBX I think. Both of those are still pretty portable.

I like punch... I think I would find the sound too boomy with a 15 under the MB210.


FWIW, the more I play this amp, the more I'm falling in love with it :bassist::bassist::bassist:

Cool!

Just know that the low end will open up, the more you play it. Mine has been 'hogged out' pretty good and it's kinda boomy on its own.

The 410MBX looks like a good deal, but 'for me', the 74 lb. weight would be a 'deal killer'. But I'm OLD!!

Hubboy....I love this thing!! :bassist: I sat it on an Auralex GRAMMA pad to get it up higher (this is a sitdown gig). With all controls set at noon (except master vol. which was at about 9:30), contour off, horn off and limiter on, it carved out a beautiful chunk of the mix. Great lows, mids and highs....well, as the night wore on the upper mids and highs were starting to get obscured by the blossoming low end. My B string has NEVER sounded so good...and the lows have this beautiful texture to them. I got quite a few compliments on my tone and playing...it was a GOOD night! :hyper:

So, as 'break-in' continues, let's hope the lows don't come up and take over. Tomorrow, she's getting a set of lightweight 3" casters installed, so I can ditch the dolly and the Auralex.

I'd sure love to hear some gig stories about the MB210 or 212...anybody? :)

Doing a gig tomorrow with my MB210. Will definitely report back to you guys no how it went.

This gig won't be the real test though. This is a kind of quiet shin-dig with just a trio. Next week I have a rehearsal with my super killer loud rock band and that will be the true test.

I'll also get to plug it into a 4x10 at that point to further test the 610 total setup.

I've now had a chance to fool around some with my MB210 and my new MB115. I play them simultaneously so they give out a combined 550 watts into 35" of speaker. Comparable to a 500watt head driving a 4 x 10 cab.

Here's my set up:

Schecter C-4 (EMG humbuckers, 2 band EQ) > Pitchblack > Live Wire ABY Box (splitter) >

Line A > RAT (fuzz) > MB115.

Line B > Boss OC-3 (octaver) > Boss Bass ODB-3 (overdrive) > SansAmp BDDI > MB212.

Controls on the MB210 are set as follows:
Gain: 1 o'clock
Treble: 11:30
Hi-M: 1 o'clock
Low-M: 1 o'clock
Bass: 1 o'clock
Boost: 3 o'clock
Master: used as volume control; usualy set at 9 o'clock
Limiter on
Contour and tweeter off.

Controls on the MB115 are the same except:
Low-Mid: 2 o'clock
Bass: 2 o'clock
Master: 9:30 when MB212 set at 9:00.

The available sound variations are widespread. Some examples:

Paranoid by Black Sabbath (vintage metal): BDDI and the ODB-3 into the MB212; MB115 clean.

Funk #49 by The James Gang (vintage hard rock): BDDI and OBD-3 into the MB212; MB115 clean.

Oh yeah . . ., I forgot to say that the sound is awesome and def loud enough to play over drums and an ambitious guitar player in a 750 person capacity club.

Kim, mine is dead quiet, but I don't use the tweeter. Honestly, I think that may be a place where they saved some money.

I just got through putting 3" casters on mine and am ready for round TWO of gig testing. Must get cover SOON...before it gets beat up!

personally, even if the 210 were a little more than the 112 I would still choose it. GK made the choice too easy for me. The 210MBE is really really affordable. Even for somebody as jobless and penniless as me.

I'm sure that the 112 would sound good with the MB210, but i'm pretty sure it wouldn't sound as good as the 210MBE.

What I still wanna know is how the 210mbe compares to the 410mbx. Or just in general if anybody has tried to turn their MB210 into a 6x10 setup by adding a 410 of any kind

Just finished my second gig with the MB212....It's heavenly. Got mixed emotions about the increased low end that is creeping in. It felt and sounded tighter when it was brand new. With the increased lows I'm gonna have to start dialing back on the lows like I do with the MB210.

The casters are a BIG improvement over the hand cart. This amp is tall enough now to lean on when pushing it into the gig, making for a much better load-in.

Now let's see if GK can get those MBE210 cabs produced and shipped for our friend G.O.F.!! :bassist:

...Very confused. Do you have a 115 and 210 or 212?
