GK Combo Shootout...MB210 vs. MB212

That would be a shame, these units really sound good. But everything has a limit.

What was really scary is that the noise was also audible in the headphones. That tells me it wasn't a speaker issue as some people described. It was really an electronics issue.

Wow, I've never quoted myself before!

I got the third MB 212 in today. So far, after some home use, I have no issues. I will take it to a gig and a rehearsal today, so I should know by the end of the day if everything is cool.

I really hope so. I dig this amp. And this is my last final try with them.

1. Is there a way to put casters on the bottom? I know its "light" and all, but being able to push it wouldn't hurt.

2. On the front of the combo, if you look to the left of the bottom speaker, are you supposed to be able to see clear through to the back of the combo?

3. The serial number for my combo appears to be on a white sticker that looks like there may be other stickers underneath it. Is that normal? Or should the serial number be directly printed on it?

1) As others have suggested, Id go the dolly route. Or you can get one of those fold up dolly's from costco for 25 bucks and a bungee cord.

2) ZOMG! You have a hole in yours? I kid I kid. You are probably talking about the port in the front. As long as your hole is a big square, its normal.

3) I cant recall what the back of mine looked like.

I was about to buy an mb210 and an mbe115 to go with my MB115. Now i'm thinking the new MBP115 powered cab. RAG himself told me august. this puts a whole new twist on the GK combo thing. it seems you will even be able to send in your used combo for a compatibility upgrade. what a company. i'm sorry to get off topic, but i know i'm going to wait few months for the dust to settle before i make a decision. it seems like we're about to have a lot more choices and flexibility from GK

I aired mine out last night on the job. The 212 kicked serious tail. The grille rattled on some low stuff with my NS, but that was an easy fix. This combo sounded great, had lots of bottom, lots of clarity, and much projection. Plenty of thump for the NS. Played my J bass 5 through it, and it was a match made in heaven. Couldn't have asked for a better electric bass sound. I'm sold.

I use a little plastic flat rolling dolly, put the strong velcro on it and the bottom of my MB115 - works great. Only reason I need this is due to back problems, the MB115 is super light as-is. I can rest my gear bag on it and roll it all into a gig in one trip - then another trip to get the bass fiddle. Two trips ain't bad with gear this light now days.

Hey everyone...great thread and tons of useful information..so I just got my MB212 from MF. I called to see if this would have the balanced XLR as announced by GK at NAMM and the service rep told me 'yes'...well, of course it doesn't and it looks like those models won't be released until August...bummed..and it arrived a little bit less than stellar. The handle on top is stripped out with no way to carry the amp, half of the screws were barely attached and my five string makes this think break up like glass on a kitchen floor..I guess back it goes..I still believe in this amp, but it would be nice if GK could get its quality control back to what it was in the late 80's. I played guitar in those days and had a little GK 'lunch box' that was out of this world. I've always loved their tone, but bummed that I have to go to the hassle of returning and waiting for a new amp..:(

I dont know if thats GK's QC, or MF sending you a damaged one as a "new one" and hoping youd be happy with it.

My MB210 and 210MBE arrived in what seemed to be flawless condition. I can't imagine G-K shipping something with a pulled handle, loose screws and whatnot. I strongly suspect you are not the first person to take that MB212 out of the box. As a guess: it is a return being sold "as new."

As I had mentioned before, I had to get 3 MB 212s from MF in order to get one that was functional.

The first one I got had all the knobs turned to zero. The second one had knobs all over the place, therefore had probably been used before. The third one had knobs to zero.

All this doesn't mean that MF is sending out amps that have been used before. But the first two I received were clearly not usable. They were clearly defective.

However, the third one is holding up great after about a month of ownership! I am very very happy with it, the sound is really cool.

Glad you got a good one finally. Stuff like you mention always makes me wonder what goes on behind the scenes, in the warehouse, etc. Just It causes me to ponder how often we really get what we're paying for from retailers.

Do you guys think the Peavey Headliner 115 would make a good extension cabinet to my MB210?

It's $50 cheaper than the GK 115MBE. I know it weighs more, but that's really irrelevant to me, I don't mind the weight. This cab is only going to be used when we play larger venues anyway.

I'm just looking for a solid, inexpensive 115 cab to add to my MB210 to really push some lows and move some air in the larger venues.

Any suggestions are welcome also,
