GK Fusion 800- speaker load required?

Can a GK Fusion 800 be run without a speaker load as a preamp for recording and/ or FOH? Given its Class D power section, it “should” work, but I wanted to find out if anyone had experience doing this. I’m considering going all IEM, and don’t wanna blow anything up….

Thoughts? Bob Gallien, you out there?

The G-K Fusion S amplifiers are solid state, and as such can be operated without a speaker load. The fact that there are tubes in the preamp has nothing to do with the output stage. You will be fine with IEMs but why buy such an amp if you're not going to use speakers? What's the point of having 800 watts if you aren't going to drive speakers? You could just as well use a decent preamp pedal.

You're fine to run that head without speakers connected...from the MB Fusion 800 Manual:

Speaker: The speaker output to a speaker cabinet delivers 800w into 4 Ohm loads. Lower impedances such as 8 Ohms or 16 Ohms and no load are acceptable. One 4 Ohm speaker and one 8 Ohm speaker is not recommended. A high current twist-lock 2 pin or 4 pin GK Speakon connector is required for this connection.

I already own the Fusion 800- and I’ve had zero amp GAS since buying it new 7 years ago. I considered using a pedal/ preamp, but I want to explore the option of using he GK in this manner. Of course, 800 GK watts with a Schroeder 410L, it’s glorious….haven’t ever needed the master above 9 o’clock.

I contacted them directly once about this with my MB500 (had a weird gig where I couldn't use an amp but needed something to go to the PA) and they said no problem (and wrote back to me at 9PM on a friday, which was nice). If you find yourself in this situation alot, you might be better of with a GK plex or a sans amp or something similar. Not that there is risk to your head, but it's just a smaller thing to carry (IEMs and a sans amp would fit in a gig bag pocket), or if you use a pedal board, they just fit right on there
